I was talking with a friend about my new SUB2000. I opined that I thought it would probably run more smoothly with FMJ projectiles.

But I have no experience with the PCC family (in 9mm).

Any thoughts you'd care to share?

It of course comes down to task/purpose..

Plinking and practice I just run my standard IDPA loads through mine which are 147 Coated.

For SD, I'd probably just load my mags with the same thing in my CCWs/HD pistols which is Speer 147 GDs. Of course for this you'll have to run some through to check reliability. My Colt AR6951 as run everything I've put through it so far.

In my SUB2000, I run the cheapest 124gr 9MM I can find, it has always eaten everything I fed it with no issues. But, I have done a LOT of mods to it.

In my CMMG Banshee, which is a home defense gun, I am using Federal 124Gr +P HST. Ran a couple hundred rounds through it to ensure no feeding issues so I knew it was reliable.

Was your friend's gun having ammo related issues?

For blasting for fun, I like FMJ in my 9mm PCC. But I do stuff the mags with JHPs for home defense. So far, my CX4 does not seem to have any ammo related issues.

Negative - no problems. Uncertain what ammo he used as he offered me two free magazine fulls to shoot.

I have a Sub 2000, Hi Point, and Ruger PC9 in 9mm. They eat anything I feed them. You'll usually gain 150 fps or more in a 16 ".from a 124 gr or less bullet.

Many 147 gr loads, which are designed to be subsonic, actually lose velocity in a 16" barrel.

Ive been running rem 180 bulk jhps and cast rn/fps out of my 40 cal sub. No failures in the 300 or so rounds I've fired. Cant say for 9s but my gun dosent see to care too much

For generally range plinking and practice, a 9mm carbine should run with any bulk FMJ you'd run in a 9mm pistol. Between my dad and I we had 3 9mm PCCs at one point (CZ Scorpion, Kel-Tec Sub2000 and Ruger PC-9) and neither of us has encountered any issues with a wide assortment of 115 and 124 grain FMJ types. I even loaded up some powder coated 147gr lead bullets I had laying around and my Scorpion fed them just fine.

For a defensive type use, you'll have to vet the reliability of any hollow-point just like you would with a pistol. I think the only hollow-points either of us tried were some 127gr +P+ Winchester Ranger SXTs in my Scorpion. They fed and functioned just fine for me, but as always, your mileage may vary.

Favorite bullet for what? For example, my cast and coated bullets are by far the least expensive but JHP's are normally the most accurate. Depends on what I am doing as to which one I pick or maybe others.

My sub2000 is in 40 s&w and it has not had any issues feeding wide hollow points. The 4 9mm pcc's I've had have all been a little bit picky on ammo. My hi point really didn't like anything but FMJ. My current AR9 does fine with long nose profile hollowpoints like a federal HST or sig V-crown. I have shot quite a lot of them suppressed.

In my Marlin Camp Carbine it seems to feed anything. I like 124gr flat nosed bullets best. For hollow points I like Hornady XTP bullets. They just feed so slick in the camp carbine and in my Marlin 357 they are so smooth you almost can't tell if you are cycling an empty or loaded gun. They seem to be a little tougher than most HP bullets and hang together better with the added velocity.

If you want something that runs 100% with any factory and handloads get a mech-tech! Best money I've ever spent (around $600)! I bought an upper that uses a Glock 20/40 frame. I have yet to clean it in over 2k rounds and it still cycles great. It runs 135gr ~1,900+ and 155's around ~1,775fps.
