Called in lots of dogs over the years and a .22/250 or a .220 swift stacks em up as far as you can hit em. With the right projectile, very little pelt damage. Out here in the west, there are long shot opportunities where a .243 or a .25/06 reach out there a little farther in the wind, but they tend to cost more in damage to the hides. I shot a .17 Remington for a minute, it is absolutely easy on fur, but not so easy to hit long hayfield shots in the wind.
