I like the .243 for coyotes. It puts them down with no problem and there isn't a ton of over-penetration like a .30 cal would have.

I had to answer .243 cause that's my favorite gun, but my .223 does the job just as well, but I don't have it as tricked-out as my .243

I don't get a lot of coyote but I do get a ton of big foxes. I usually drop them with a 40gr Vmax which drops them dead on the spot. It's amazing just how much damage a 40gr bullet can do.

I have both a .223 and .243, but like the .243 for longer shots in the wind, and it's windy most of the time in our blueberry fields. Our Eastern Coyotes are also bigger than Western ones.

Nothing kills them deader quicker DRT then the .220 Swift or 22-250.

Been doing it since the 1950's, tried most every caliber there is, and that's my story and I'm sticking too it.

223/5.56 is a good compromise if you are trying to save fur. It works pretty good out to the distance that a call shy dog might stop.

.308 Winchester

Every Coyote (10) I have ever shot was shot while hunting deer or hogs. 150 Grain Ballistic Tips knock them flat.

Just my .02,

Called in lots of dogs over the years and a .22/250 or a .220 swift stacks em up as far as you can hit em. With the right projectile, very little pelt damage. Out here in the west, there are long shot opportunities where a .243 or a .25/06 reach out there a little farther in the wind, but they tend to cost more in damage to the hides. I shot a .17 Remington for a minute, it is absolutely easy on fur, but not so easy to hit long hayfield shots in the wind.

I prefer the .223 as I've got 5 various models of the .223 rifle and a TC Contender Rifle/Pistol that are very accurate. I've also got a Savage 24V in .222/20 ga. that I used while hunting quail a few years ago when the coyotes, started over running the hunting lands. I could take a coyote off hand at up to 100 yards at that time, sure wish I could still shoot like that.:scrutiny:

We normally use 12ga slugs.. or 00 buck if its what we have. I'm always out there because we have a 50$ a head Bounty on coyote... Other than the 12ga ill use a .270... Maybe that's overkill, but it the only rifle I have besides 30-30, .308, and 7.62x54r...

I like my .204 Ruger. Usually see some yotes whilst out hunting smaller varmints anyway. Elsewise, I'd go with the .223.

I shoot them with what ever is in my hands!

I've killed them with everything from .338-06, 8x57, 7 RM on down...

22 Win. Mag. does a great job, if you hit them in the boiler room...
