My favorite? The first gun my father gave to me: A Remington model 12C .22 pump. I still have it 48 years later. It was 40 years old then. It still works perfectly. Just holding it brings back a lot of memories.
Mine is a total mixmaster, Springfield 1.1 million, manufactured in January 1943, so it more likely than not saw service in WWII. Was sold to teh Danes and rebuilt with a Var barrel. Bought it from CMP as a woodless literally the last weekend they were selling them from the North store , and topped it all off is a Korean stock complete with rack markings.
I learned to hunt with a Savage single shot 20 gauge, it had the dovetail lever which is almost impossible to find on single barreled break actions. I absolutely revered that gun and pulled off some amazing shots with it. When I "grew out of it" it was passed on to my brothers kids [against my will] and I never saw it again ... they probably lost it in a card game or traded it for joint [angry glare].
I'd pay quadruple what that gun is worth to have it back again but alas I shall never see it.
Hands down, my all time favorite firearm is my Marlin Golden 39A. Mine is 1961 vintage and i inherited it when i was 10 so i've had it for 18 years now! It is my go to whenever i'm yearning for a companion at the shooting range or my trusted hunting partner when out small game hunting. Every time i take it out shooting i relive all the memories that we have together. The 39A is a fine piece of machinery and will outlive me i'm sure.
I have a lot of favorites, but this one was the first gun my dad gave me so it tops my list. It still has the finish I put on it when I was about 13. It belongs to my son now.
My Winchester 94 Trapper (16in barrel with saddle ring) in .44 mag/,44 special. I bought it for myself as an 18th birthday present. It was the first gun I ever bought. I agree that a lever action carbine is about the perfect gun. I like the .44 mag in it, perfect for hogs, and you don't have to skin any rabbits you shoot with it. Small, dang little handy gun.
A close second is the Remington 7400 in .30-06 I inherited from my great grandfather when I was six or so (of course I didn't get to shoot it for a few years).
I remeber a guy asking me what my favorite gun was. I almost responded "Browning High Power" because I was enamored with the one I had just aquired. As I thought about though- knowing this fellow was a real "tool guy" I said "I don't know- what's your favorite tool?"
I guess the answer to both questions is "It depends on the situation". Learned that answer at Ft Benning a long time ago.
Remington 512 with Weaver G6 scope. First rifle I owned and still have. Got it as a gift from my Grandfather in 1948. Still looks near new and has at least 1,000 rds go thru it each year.
Most cherished would be the Remmie 521T .22 Dad bought me as my first gun & his SxS 12 gauge (the fact that he used this one makes it invaluable!). Favorite would have to be a group:
Handguns - Model 57 Smith & Colt Python
Shotgun: A sweet 28 gauge Red Label
Long gun: TC G2 Carbine .204 Ruger (well, kinda long)
If I could only have one, I reckon I'd keep Dad's old SxS . . . but, I'm planning on keeping them ALL (plus mebbe 1 or 10 more . . . ).
Favorite gun ever?!?!? It should be worded "favorite gun(s) ever".
In that case, my Blaser R-93 Tracker 308 topped with a Swarovski 3-9, my Marlin 336SS 30-30 that I converted from pistol grip to straight grip topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9, my H&K P7M8, my Glock 17, my Sig P228, my Winchester 61, my Benelli Super 90, my english stocked Beretta Onyx O/U, my S&W 629 "mountain backpacker", my........Oh! heck!, I love'em all!
