Favorite Gun Scene Ever

I like the classic Doc Holiday and Johnny Ringo in Tombstone. Still my favorite after all these years.
My favorite western (and one of the best ever made) along with "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Big Jake" both of which also have plenty of good gunfights, including when Eastwood confronts the group of "redleg" soldiers outside the general store and says, "Well, are you going to pull those pistols or just stand their whistling Dixie", and when Patrick Wayne uses his brother's "Bergmann" (really a P-38) auto in the saloon.

my vote -
the 'confrontation' during the final 5 minutes of Thief
what James Cann does is simply priceless
shows a man when he has nothing left to lose

and the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream ain't half-bad, either

ff

There are gun scenes that were the coolest. But my favorite (inaccurate and misleading to the uninformed it may be) is the scene in boondock saints where the cat gets shot. "Is it dead?" I laughed so hard I cried.
Bye, bye kitty

I was so just about to say the Miami Vice movie! The end shootout, where Switek and Tubbs go around popping off baddies with 12 gauges (and one grenade launcher;) )

Yup. I hate cats.

There is an old HBO original movie starring Lou Gossett and Anthony Edwards called "The Durango Kid" IIRC where Gossett shoots a man in the back.

"You shot him in the back!"

"His back was to me."

"I don't shoot as well as I used to, but I cheat real good."

There are so many good and funny scenes in this movie y'all have got to see it. Outhouse shootout. Snake in a bag. Shooting your horse out from under you. The list goes on...

And pretty much every scene from "To Hell and Back" and "Sergeant York."

Not exactly a gun scene;

But I just finished watching "The Replacement Killers" (certainly enough guns there...now I know where the inspiration for "Guns...lots of guns" came from and the Matrix lobby scene) and I've decided to christen it "Coburns' law":

Meg: "Just, somewhere along the way I developed a problem with watching you die..."

try that one on an anti...

Cheers, TF

Ok, Ok; a gun scene then: from Firefly (War Stories):
Zoe: "Jayne; This is something the Cap'n has to do for himself."
Mal: "No! No it isn't!"
Zoe: "Ohhh..."
Cheers, TF

I can't believe no one has mentioned the infamous Dirty Harry scene: Do you feel lucky today, punk? - sorry that the best one of all time!

I agree with the others:

  • Combat (why don't they run that series in syndication?)
  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  • Preditor - Jungle clearing scene
  • Hamburger Hill

Grin

1) Heat - for sure!
2) Pvt Ryan - 1st half hour/last half hour
3) Ride with the Devil - 10 min into this flick massive shootout between
Yankee troops and Confederate Guerillas. If you like
SA heavy calibre handguns, this one is for you1
4) Replacement Killers - "The boy will die John - and your family too!"
" Not in your lifetime!" BANG
5) Way of the Gun - Last shootout scene at the Mexican hacienda
6) Last Man Standing - Phoney but fun - for all the 1911 fans!
7) Open Range - I actually thought this was one of the better gunfight
scenes since Heat.

For me it is hard to not mention (as already mentioned) Heat and The good, the bad and the ugly.

In addition to that eventhough it is over the top I like the firefights in the french movie "Doberman" and not to mention a VERY dear childhood memory for me which is the standoff in the British Fort in the mini-series "The far pavilions"

Replacement Killers

Sorry, really feeling like this flick is underrated; one of the best scenes is the gunfight in Megs' apt/office/darkroom and hallway; the best bit of dialogue that goes with it is:

"Jooohhhnnn!" as she powers up the hallway with a shooter in tow and comes to a screeching halt shooting at the guy who has John pinned down allowing him to take out the guy chasing her. She's just fierce with that little BHP.
cheers, TF

You guys need to broaden your horizons a little. Bow down before the greatest of them all. The most squibs, the most explosions, the most on-set injuries. All for a shoestring budget with no CGI whatsoever. A little film called HARD BOILED:

And here's an earlier Wu effort from "A Better Tomorrow 2," complete with bodycount LOL

Also, how can we overlook the Duke in action from "True Grit":

And "Last of the Mohicans," an earlier Mann effort before Heat and Collateral, has some of the finest smoke pole action ever put to film:

Hardly the last.

I didn't come up with the title. It's commonly known as the last great successful calvary charge. An old-school charge. Of course horses and mounted troops were used into WWII, but no cities were taken with them. More info here:

Steve McQueen had an M1911 AND a 12ga. High Standard pump with the long magazine. One of the bad guys had an S&W Model 76 submachinegun.

His nemesis "Rudy" had a 6" Python.

Sally Strothers - "Rudy! Have you seen Rudy...?"
Texas Gunman - "No, I haven't seen Rudy, you dumb broad!"

One of my favorite movies.

Oi, I love Sam Peckinpah's movies. :)

Forget gun scenes- that's one of the best scenes period IMO. One of the things that makes it so great is there's hardly any dialogue. Just the music and actors- and the way Russell Means plays Chingachook killing Magua in revenge for Uncas' death is great. No overacting or overt sorrow, just a somber determination to avenge his son's death.

Mohicans is one of my favorite movies.

I like Tombstone, where Wyatt Erp walks out into the creek amidst the barrage of Cowboy bullets, shouting "no!" and firing, then meets the leader in the middle and shoots him. Great scene, great movie.
