I am opening a Gun Shop and i am wanting to know what everyones favorite handguns are and why? I am trying to decide the makes that i am going to carry and i think this is a good way to hear the thoughts of consumers that actually own and carry a variety of handguns.

So tell me your Favorites and Why !

Well Ive only used two. stuck with them all my life.

1911a1 Colt. Man stopper, bear stopper, works good on cars too.

CZ-52, fun toy. Soon as I find a buyer, This one will be going away. Got it on a trade for work done.

Shot a whole bunch of other ones. They just didnt go the job, the 45 does.

But then, I never have fancied handguns anyway

Are long guns your choice of weapon and if so what makes.
I'd like to know. The Colt is a good gun and you are right about the .45 it will stop about everthing that you shoot at.

^ Agreed with the above.

Just stock whatever is popular. Glocks, XDs, HKs, Sigs, 1911's, Rugers, CZs, Berettas, S&W, and etc.

Colt and Para 1911s and pre-lock Smith & Wesson revolvers, especially .41 Magnums.

Long guns I prefer include the Mossberg 500 and 590s, OU shotguns, Marlin lever-actions in handgun round calibers. I also look for older bolt action rifles in .250 Savage.

Most gunshops I go to seem to only sell higher-priced guns. Try to sell high-quality guns that aren't too cost heavy also, like Armscor 1911's, and any cz design.

It will vary with what area you live in. This a low income area where cheaper good guns sell better. Example Ruger, Glock, ect. I'm sure that in a higher income area the the opposite would be true.

My personal favorites that are still in production are:

Smith & Wesson M&P
Ruger P-345
Kel-Tec P-32 (the P-3AT would probably be a better choice for most)

The M&P is the most comfortable and accurate (for me) 9mm that I have fired. I was more accurate with the M&P with zero practice that I was with a Sig 226, Walther P99 and Springfield XD-9 that I had previously fired.

The Ruger P-345, or really any P-Series, is just a well made, dependable gun for a very reasonable price. Really can't go wrong with them. This is my HD gun.

The Kel-Tec P-32 (or P-3AT for many) is my "carry everywhere" gun. I usually wear shorts and despise IWB carry. Can't beat the little KT for pocket carry.

My other favorites aren't guns that are currently in production so probably wouldn't help you much!

Of course, you should probably have an offering of Glocks, Springfield XDs as well as some 1911-style guns. These aren't my favorites, but they are wildly popular with many.

Springfield XD's and 1911's
and Sigs

and as P97 said location! location! location! What do you think your countmers want a Tactical Hk Socom Mk 23, a outdoorsman's S&W 500, or just a classy .22 lr plinking pistol? goog luck.

Like P97 said, it will depend on the area you live in as to what guns are in the most demand. My favorites aren't necessarily what I sell the most of...most of the time, it's just the opposite - just my "neck of the woods"...

Luck to ya brother...send me a email when you get set up...I may need something you have or vice versa sometime...

Ken

I like Berettas (own a 90-two), S&W M&Ps (own a 9c), and Ruger revolvers (own a GP100 and the sp101 is on my list). I shy away from the more exotic and expensive as I'm a utilitarian guy with no budget for safe queens...

My favorite local shop is a small-time guy with good prices and personal service. He does pretty good around here as most of the shop owners/employees around here are... less than personable... I always recommend him to the exclusion of all the others as he doesn't gouge you... FWIW

As far as handguns go the Bersa and Keltec handguns sell as quickly as they hit the shelves around here. Other hot sellers include the Taurus 1911s and Springfield XDs. Ruger .22s seem to go pretty quick also. Ruger P-series guns are a safe bet, along with the S&W M & P autos and CZ autos. Glocks and Hk's sell, but not at the volume of the others listed. I believe that quality and reputation go a long way in internet chat rooms, but price and percieved value are what sells products at gunshops. These choices are low price high value.

As far as my personal favorites are concerned - I own a Glock 9mm and a 1911 .45 - best of both breeds in my opinion.

Also seriously consider doing consignment sales for 10% of the sales price. It's like having free inventory and a good percentage of the proceeds of those consignment sales will be used to purchase your inventory.

I like 1911s.
I like Browning P35 High Powers.
I like Glocks.
I like .22 rimfires.
I like .32 acp pistols.
I like Single Action Armies.
I like the .44 Magnum.

9mm Luger and .45acp are my favorite defense calibers.
.44 Special is my favorite revolver round.
What do you mean you don't own a .22 handgun??????

I like any decent quality but affordable M1911 pistol , good quality , police trade in .357 Magnum revolver, 9 mm Parabellum pistol and surplus handgun (like CZ 52, Walther PP, Makarov etc.)

For autos I would carry a good number of Sigs, Glocks, CZ's and don't forget to put some Springfield XD's on the shelf. For revolvers I'd carry a good selection of S&W's both fullsize and subby.

If your opening a gun shop let me also add that its always seemed to me that my favorite handguns are the ones I can afford. I can go to four different gun stores in my area and get four different prices on exactly the same model gun, I tend to always choose the cheapest for some reason:rolleyes:. If you carry good brands and have the lowest prices in town you will build a good reputation and do well, remember gun buyers will often be repeat customers, some of us(cough)....I mean them are even obsessive when it comes to gun buying:D

Good Luck!

My faves are:
Semi auto: anything HK, some Berettas, some Glocks, some Brownings, some Rugers
Wheelguns: S&W & Colt :D

Hope that helps ;) and good luck in your business venture!

Stock the popular service autos: Glocks, Sigs, XD's, etc. Have a fair share of the classics: 1911's, S&W's, and keep a number of moderately priced options to round things out: Kel-Tecs, Ruger's, and Taurus models. Try to have a good selection in all price ranges from the $200 Kel-Tecs to the $800 Sigs and HK's. That way any customer can walk in and have a couple good guns to choose from no matter what their financial situation is. One favor though, try to consider your selection as a representation of your store and the quality you sell to the customer. Know your product and know it's expectations. Be honest. Personally I like Beretta 92's, the Sig 226, and the Glock series. Sounds like you'll be fine and I wish you the best of luck.

Seems that .22s are always popular and maybe will be even moreso as the price of ammo continues to climb. Check out rimfirecentral.com and just look how many threads there are for each maker. Kind of gives a gauge as to what people like, at least in rimfire rifles. The 10/22 seems to beat everything else by a longshot, but as far as other rimfires, it's CZ by a wide margin, followed by Marlin, then Remington. Both the Marlin 39a and 1894c (.357 & .44magnum) are great rifles, have a loyal following, and are tough to find new lately, so my bet is they'd sell well if they were stocked.

Don't forget about revolvers! I personally like S&W DAs and Ruger SAs.
