What is your favorite metal framed 9mm?

I am currently in the market for a new handgun and am brain storming ideas. The majority of my handguns are polymer framed striker fired pistols (a few Glocks, HK VP9, Walther P99, M&P shield), with the exception of my 1911.

I really want to try something different and have been looking into DA/SA metal framed handguns.
I live on an island in Alaska so I don’t really have access to a range that rents out firearms and the local shop has a pretty small inventory. I don’t really have the option to go look at these in person before I order one, so I’m basically relying on forums and YouTube reviews.

I’m leaning towards A CZ 75 ($650) at the moment, but part of me wants to splurge and get a P226 Tacops ($1100)

I am open to any ideas. What are your favorite Metal Framed 9mm handguns and why?

Since you've already got lightweight stuff covered, go ahead and go heavy. Get a big, soft-shooting, accurate gun that can be made to have a great trigger.

Get steel frame, not alloy. That knocks out the P226 and most 92 variants. If you were going to "splurge," get something like a CZ Shadow 2 or a Tanfo' Stock II.

From your list of options, I chose the CZ75, but my actual favorite is my CZ Shadow 2.
I have no intentions of ever carrying the Shadow, but would not hesitate to holster the 75B.

I bought an S&W Model 908 from Alaska Custom Firearms in Anchorage online. I was looking at the website, it appears they sell mostly through auction. I was curious about one of their recent offering of an S&W Model 4048 which I suspect was mislabeled or stamped wrong at the factory. It is probably a Model 4046, .40 S&W DAO semi-auto which might come in handy with some of the critters wandering around your neck of the woods. I'd give them a call about a CZ or any other choice.

I love a BHP but it is SAO gun not a DA/SA. One of the downsides to the CZ75 variants is if you want to shoot them DA/SA for a lot of them you are going to have to lower the hammer manually because there is no decocker. That said if I was looking for a true all steel DA/SA gun that is good to go right out of the box you cannot beat the CZ Shadow 2. You can get them under $1000 if you know where to look.

I’ve got to echo ATLDave’s and WVsig’s words. I own and shoot multiple Sigs, a Betetta, a few HK’s, two Dan Wesson 1911’s, and a SA. The CZ Shadow 2 is hands down my most fun gun to shoot.

They’re worth every penny, in fact I’m possibly going to pick up a second one but may go for a TSO instead. I don’t really need two Shadows.

Would have been a dead-heat between my original CZ-75 and High Power but this thing has completely stolen my heart the last couple of years.

10 rounds of any 9mm you care to load, stupendously accurate, slim, light and a 1911 trigger of the highest order.

What's not to love.

Funny story, I bought it from an interior decorator and it came with its original box but also an imitation Prada zipper case.

My Kimber has lingerie, baby!

Todd.

If you are looking at a DA/SA pistol, I'd strongly recommend the Cz75e Compact. If SA, the Browning Hi Power would be my choice.

Another 3rd gen S&W fan, although I’d be tempted by the Beretta as a second choice. 6904 is the blue/black compact with a 12 round mag, and my 9mm carry, the full-size is the 5904. Stainless versions would be, respectively, the 6906 and 5906, although the 6906 is an alloy frame with a stainless slide, while 5906 would be all stainless. I believe the 908 mentioned earlier would be an alloy framed 3rd gen “value series”. The value series are solid guns in their own tight, but some parts are MIM or plastic, and sights are generally not interchangeable with the standard line.
