Favorite Lever Action Rifles

My Winchester 9422 in .22lr. Bought it at the age of 13 after working at an apple orchard all summer. Its been shot and carried so much a lot of bluing is worn off the bottom of the receiver. Still functions great.

My favorite is my only. A Henry .22 Trapper model with the octagon barrel and Skinner peep sigh. My wife actually picked it out of rack of Henry's in a dealer display. Sorry, that's all I got in a lever.

either the 3220 or 218 bee marlin. 44 40 73 replica close second.
Trey I did the same thing. 99a in 375 on a mini. no matter how many times I confess it didn't come back my way, lol.

Most of my levers are rimfires, but I do have a handful of centerfire leverguns. One of them is a Browning 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine in 45-70 that I picked up a few years back. The quality is just outstanding, and it shoots very well offhand. I still love my rimfire leverguns, but the Browning has got to be one of my favorites of the bunch.

I've got several I like. My M71 in .50-110 is my favorite though. I'm also fond of 1886s, 92s, and Winchester 1895s in bottleneck calibers. All the JMB designs were winners.

I think the BLR22 II is mine too but I guess that depends on what I am doing.

I have a Winchester 94 that is mechanically perfect as is the wood but an owner before me let it get cosmetic rust so I got it for $100. Great “loaner” gun and the only centerfire rifle I leave at the farm for use (aka most useful and used).

The 1895 Marlin in 45-70 is a capable firearm, factory loads kill stuff and don’t beat you up near as bad as rounds loaded to what it can safely fire.

An 1894 in 357 is pretty versatile and fun too, middle of the road.

Lots of others the savage 99 has a following, the marlin 39 would be nice one for them to start making again, the 1866 is kind of neat if you want something that looks like what you see in old movies.

I try to not have favorites, just enjoy them all.

My son killed his first two deer with my dad's old Winchester 88 in .308 . What a great rifle! My favorite is my Rossi 92 .357 16 inch. My jm stamped marlin 336 from the 60s is a close second.

Probably my Browning 92 in .44 magnum. One of my most accurate longarms. I also have a Winchester 9422 I like.
Runner-ups: A Uberti repro of the Win. 1873 saddle ring carbine and the Colt Burgess 1883 Carbine, both in .44-40.

My favorite is a 94 in 25-35 given to me by my best friend. He is now gone but that rifle and memory of how he gave it to me will last as long as I do. I am working on a deal for a model 71, which is my dream lever. But I have a few. Marlin 336T 30/30, 1940/41 94 32spcl. Winchester 88 post 64. 308.
I also had a bunch I should have held a little tighter. A browning 53 32/20, marlin 218 bee. Winchester 94 made in 1895 30/30.a number of saddle ring carbines and a Winchester 64. That one I was just plane stupid. I like levers almost as much a single shot rifles like highwalls, sharps and No 1’s. Singles are like levers with out magazines.

Winchester 1873
Winchester 1892
Winchester 1894
Marlin 336C
Marlin 39

A matched pair. As a rule I like any of the Marlins with a straight grip. I think the Marlin is slightly better than Winchester, but just don't like the pistol grip. Over the years I've picked up several, but 2 of them stand out. Both were made in 1958, the same year I was born. levers 004.JPG

I have also have a Rossi 92 in 45 Colt which is my favorite.
I have spent alot of time smoothing the action and, now, it is "butter smooth" and a joy to shoot.
But, I have always lusted for an 1860 Henry.
Well, maybe someday.

Older Marlin straight grip rifles. Mainly the 336, 1895, and 444.

I once bought 3 Marlin 336 Texans in 3 consecutive days. One of each barrel length.

Despite having Marlins as utilitarian hunting rifles, I still lean towards the Winchester 95. There's just something I can't describe in 100+ year old gun that has survived in almost mint condition all these years. It oozes history.

Either my 1894 .44 RM or my 1895 GG .45-70
Then my 39a
Then my 1894 .357

I want to add an1873 Uberti in .44-40
And I’ve always wanted a Savage 99 in .308

Greg
