I’ll buy something from them! see how Dixie service is. I like their name

If you ever find yourself in Tennessee stop in at the Dixie Gun Works store. They have an awesome collection of guns, most of which are for sale. Plus all the BP guns, swords, etc.

The Log Cabin Shoppe has been around since before that loud mouth from Tennessee. Going on three generations now. Dan Kindig and his brother Rick took over after Wes passed away. Now the next generation is getting in step to take over. Dan was quite the competitor and builder.

I learned a lot from Wes. He was a gentleman.

Turner Kirkland was an industry giant. Did an awful lot for us charcoal burners.
Black Powder people are way different from Handloader people. Handloaders fight over BC and burn rates and not shooting anybody’s reloads because nobody is as good as them.

Black Powder people laugh about Loud Mouth Kirkland and Wes being a gentleman of the charcoal! lol… you guys are my kidda people

“How many gains” … A spoon full!

It's not that nobody else is as good as me. It's that anybody can make mistakes. I won't shoot anybody else's reloads and I wont let anybody else shoot my reloads unless I know them really well and then they only shoot them in my guns.

Oh come on! Skill level one. Some light wood finishing, blue the barrel or paint it with epoxy paint.
but why, when they got a team
of Italians with paint brush and supplies for an extra $50!!!

I never buy anything that I cannot inspect and handle in person.

That pretty much rules out all the online vendors.

However back about 10 years ago I bought my Uberti Replica 1860 Henry sight unseen from Dixie.

Being a cartridge rifle, I had a local dealer order it for me. I have always been very pleased with that rifle.

Other than that, if I cannot handle it and inspect it personally, I do not even consider buying it.

Hmmmm.....I seem to recall I had one of the old Dixie catalogs laying around somewhere. Will have to see if I can find it, or if it got tossed.

I have bought stuff on line from Track of the Wolf and from Buffalo Arms, but only accessories, no guns.

If your looking for discounts I don't know. If your looking for quality items. "Track of the Wolf " has always been good to me for build kits.

Hawg

if you were getting the catalog back in the early 70s you’ll remember Turner Kirkland always had som interesting stories and commentary in it …

Yes indeed I do. I remember him talking about the first flintlock he ever had/made amongst other stories. He was honest too. He would tell you which revolvers would "shoot loose" and which ones wouldn't.

i've been looking for a decent deal on a colt dragoon 3rd model for a while myself. don't seem to be many deals anywhere lately

I couldn't do that. I have a whole bunch of good stuff I wouldn't have if I didn't buy online. I wouldn't have my Colt SAA, any of my USFA's, quite a few Rugers and S&W's. I'd only have two percussion revolvers instead of dozens.

That said, there's nothing saying you can't send something back before filling out the 4473. About 2yrs ago I got a S&W 57 off Gunbroker. It had some very obvious issues that were not outlined in the listing and I sent it back. It's the only one I remember.
