Favorite Powder not BH209

I’m finally getting my new to me old CVA Optima lined out and ready for a range trip.

I had bought 2 bottles of BH209 this summer after reading glowing praise for it everywhere but after some further reading I’ve found my breechplug is not reliable with it.

What is your favorite powder for an inline? Loose powder or pellets? Only use will be hunting whitetail a couple weekends a year and some support range time.

I’m trying to start developing a load but all the powder and bullet combos get a bit overwhelming

Swiss Blackpowder… 1.5, 2, or 3F… second best is Hogdons Triple 7. Pyrodex ok too.

I don't use an inline but loose powder is always better. Swiss or Pyrodex is what I use.

That was my next comment… more flexibility… how do you develop a load if you have a choice of 50 or 100 grains?

Goex old eyensford 3f is my go to.
Until Goex shows up on store shelves id be more then happy with swiss 3f.

Swiss is absolutely the best and priced accordingly.

I guess I could in a pinch, but I never use real BP in an inline. I'm usually sighted in with triple 7. I'm getting ready to sight in an Optima also. I plan to start with 100 gr (115 gr bp equivalent) and 250 gr Hornady SST in sabot.

Never used an inline, but I use Schuetzen FFg in all my Black Powder cartridges. Slightly cleaner burning than Goex, not as expensive as Swiss.

3F black powder!
I only have one inline. It is a Savage that can use smokeless powders.

Substitutes are just that...a substitute for something that is better, mainly black powder.
