What is your favorite sight configuration for pistol sights?

3-dot, dot the "i", dot and outline, dot front and plain rear, plain front and rear, fiber-optic front with rear dot, etc...... etc.......

NIGHT SIGHTS ARE STILL DOT SIGHTS. So just mention if you like them front and rear, just front, etc.

Also, feel free to mention your preference for adjustable or fixed configurations.

For pistols that are to serve a defensive role, I prefer the XS style sight in which you have a big front "golf ball" white sight and a shallow v groove. To line up sights you do the eye. They come with triitum in them as well. I tried other sights but for defensive purposes which are likely to be close up, I wanted something that was quick to line up. I tried the others you mentioned and for me, the XS worked the best. You may find others work better for it. For social plinking pistols, I really don't have a preference. Whatever is factor stock is fine by me.

For carry, I haven't found anything that tops the factory Heinie straight eight night sights set into a trench on my STI Shadow. Larger front dot goes on top of a smaller rear dot. See pic...

Favorite? Black, serrated rear with no dots. Same up front.

But on my carry guns I run heinie straight 8's.

Forgot all about mentioning the "straight 8." (I guess because I never really liked it.)

I am familiar with the XS BigDot front sight. You can get them with a variety of rear sights. (I like mine with a plain rear.) They are VERY nice for getting on target quick.

I think if I had to pick just one overall it would be a 3-dot. Perhaps with either a slightly larger or different color dot on the front.

Night sights are a MUST HAVE, as far as specific configuration, in three dot pattern, I like either yellow or orange dots in the rear and a green dot in thefront, or ideally, a green horizontal bar in the rear and a green dot in the front. The name of the game is being able to quckly pick up the front sight and if I have time to frame it in the rear sight.

Night sights are a MUST HAVE

Arguable.

Then again, lots of folks that you don't need sights at all on a defensive pistol.

I feel better having them "just in case."

Before the naysayers come along, night sights do not disappear with muzzle flash. I've shot outdoors at night and will continue to do so, and those pesky green dots are always there even after 300+ rounds...much less just 1-15 defensive shots. :)

I've gotten by for a couple decades without them.....

I've gotten by a couple of decades without shooting 2 legged predators, so I don't know if I need them or not.

I hope to never find out, but if I do find out in a low light situation...I'll be sure to update this post. :)

Until then I'll just keep on using them, they aren't hurting anything except for $35-$45 more in price.

I like a 3 dot sight. No need for night sights. I have an 'I' post with a dot front and don't know yet if I like it. It's just different to me so I'll hold my personal verdict at this time.

I like 3-dot, followed by plain black or just a front dot. I like the three posts to be on the chunky side, for some reason.

Straight eight and "dot the i" type sights never appealed to me, the outline rear with front dot works, but I just treat it like a plain rear with front dot.

Im pretty fond of my Trijicon three dot sights, fixed is what I have on my carry pistols. I havent tried the dot the eye, or straight 8s, but will keep an open mind if the opportunity ever arises to try them out.

The fastest sights for use during the day are a front blade with a fiber optic tube and a plain black rear sight with a generous (letting in lots of light on both sides of the front blade) "U" shaped (rounded bottom) notch. The F/O makes it easier for older eyes to pick up the front sight, but you're still aligning the tops of the sight blades

For defensive shooting, I replace the front fiber optic with a night sight dot. I just got a gun back from the smith and he asked me to try a XS small dot front night sight lamp. I'm still adapting to the lack of a flat top on the front blade.

I've found the 3-dot system very busy and slow to align. When you become more proficient at shooting accurately and you start shooting faster, you'll find that you align your sights by seeing them, rather than looking at them. When you learn to see your sights like this, the 3-dots actually make perceiving them as being aligned slower

Keeping in the same line of thought as 9mm above...that is why I like the straight 8's. I don't see the bottom dot during the day so it acts like plain black to me. I just ordered a glock 26 and I'll more than likely buy a heinie rear with no tritium and a tritium front. We'll see how that works for me.

Heinie rear with a gold bead front sight.

Fiber optic or gold bead front sight, plain black rear -- I hate dots, bars, colors, etc. on the rear. You need to focus on the front sight, anything to look at on the rear is a distraction!

If there is anything on the rear, I paint it black.

heinie straight 8s or the nite site versions there of
I just shoot faster and more accuratly with those than any other ive tried

the ones i dislike the most are all black target sights my eyes dont want to pick them up fast enough for anything
