Whats yours? I'm looking to buy my first single action revolver, I have a pile of double action wheel guns (357, 38, 44, 45lc), not sure why I'm just now getting to the single actions. So I'm looking for a good place to start and while its possible I may eventually start a collection of SA guns I'd like for the first one to be a keeper.

Mostly it will be a range toy with the possibility of a little hunting. I think I'd be more inclined to hunt small critters rather than deer/hog sized game with it but who knows. That alone had me originally thinking Single Six but its hard to ignore the Blackhawks. 38 special might be fun for little critters too but 44 special is one of my favorite handgun rounds. Also the Single Six seems like a great teaching tool for kids and new shooters.

Decisions decisions....little help?

really like my 4 5/8 black hawk convertable 357 and 9mm great shooter with both for my uses anyway.
fwiw

Favorite is my old single six flatgate. That said, it's hard to beat the OM Blackhawks. I've got a flat top .357 and one of the new Lipsey .44 spec vaqueros as well.

If I was looking for my first, I'd find a .357 on the smaller frame. JMO.

Try the grip frame before parting with the $$ - I have a hell of a time with the std Blackhawk grip but love the Bisley.

My favorite is the New Model Single Six Convertible, .22 S/L/LR and .22 magnum.

It's a tough and reliable gun with a good safety system (trigger actuated transfer bar) and very versatile. It is more compact than the Blackhawks and to me feels better balanced: not as top-heavy.

My two .44 special Flattops. One is blued 4 5/8' and the other is stainless also with a 4 5/8" barrel. Both are sweet shooters and a dream to pack.

My Blackhawk..

the .357 magnum blackhawk has taken many wild boar on my farm using 180gr bullets.

I've yet to find a New Model Blackhawk locally that I can afford, so I settled for a New Model Single Six Convertible, and fell in love with it, Mainly shoot the mags, more acc, louder report, easier to load, very fun, very versatile, still trying to figure out the adjustable sights though. Probably not the best for defense or hunting but in this economy, it's perfect, I've added it to my keep list, I have 3 guns now that I'll never get rid of, and 4 that are open to barter.

Blackhawk convertible in .357/9mm with a 6 1/2" barrel.

That one gun would cover virtually everything you mention! :)

I like my 30 M-1 carbine Black Hawk----goes nice with my M-1 carbine rifle.
ps: why do people always stick a piece of something in the trigger housing in a photo?

I'm kinda partial to these, Single six convertible, (old mod.)
Blackhawk .357mag. (new mod.)
Super blackhawk .44mag. (old mod.)

They were all purchased so long ago that I doubt there is $600.00 tied up in all of them.

Do you reload? If so I would go with the 44 or 45 colt (esp since you already have them in DA). Very flexible and fun for the reloader.

If you do not, I would go with the 357/9mm convertable.

I have a Single Six, Stainless 357, a blued 357/9mm, and a blued 45 colt/45 acp. I recently got into reloading and the 45 colt/ 45 acp is quickly becoming my favorite. Before I reloaded I would have said the 357/9mm
