Favorite steel framed .40?

I only own one 40 S&W caliber handgun, and it's a Browning Hi Power Practical.

The cast frames with the redesigned slide and relief cut are designed to handle the 40 caliber. When the Hi Power failed in FBI "testing" it was with a forged frame with a "bigger barrel slapped in it." That is not a good choice for a "represenative" sample of the Hi Power in a 40 caliber.

There, I got in before the urination contest got the thread locked. :neener:

I have to concur with those who pointed out that the BHP in .40 S&W was designed from the ground up for the .40S&W cartridge and is not a 9mm with a .40S&W barrel slapped in it. I own three 9mm Hi-Powers and one .40S&W Hi-Power and the 3oz difference in the heavier, stronger .40 is quite noticable in hand.

S&W 4006
S&W 3rd gens are just about the best gun for the money out there. No longer made but its a S&W so that is a none issue.

CZ 75B !!

The most accurate .40 I've ever owned and that's including the G23 and HK USP. All steel construction makes it easy on the recoil too! Best $350 I ever spent on a pistol.

Another vote here for the CZ 75B in 40S&W. Great ergonomics and stunning accuracy.

(I'd have suggested the CZ 40B, but the OP was asking about steel-framed .40s and the 40B has an aluminium frame.)

I have shot these, and liked them:

CZ40
EAA Witness fullsized.
Baby Eagle fullsized.
Sig 229 Steel frame. My friend has one, very nice.

And if you like pain:

Astra A-75, my hands feel like I held onto a firecracker. Great little gun though. I like my 9mm A-75 a lot better, but it's not as pretty.

If he has owned that many HPs then he should know better. Let me guess they are all 9mm.

Nonetheless the 40 BHP is quite a contender if only steel frames are being considered.

This is the weapon I carry at the present time. It is an EAA Witness Elite Match .40 S&W. I can convert it to 10mm Auto, by changig barrel, recoil spring, and mags. Hard to conceal, and at 32 Oz. empty it's heavy, but an accurate shooter. I have used an inpant Small of the Back Rig, A Galco Shoulder Rig, and a Belt Slide Holster, I prefer the Belt side, but in the summer it is real hard to hide.

My favorite, THIS:

Some Sigs do have stainless frames.

+1!!!

But why go to steel if polymer does the job just fine? It just makes carrying more of a hassle. If you had to have all-steel and .40s&w, the Sig is a great choice. A 1911 chambered in .40 is great too, but why not just go to .45acp:)
