Favorite woods gun?

G19 unless im in big bear territory. Then a ruger blackhawk in 44 or 41 mag. Also dont forget a good walking stick. That stick can handle most problems in the woods. Mainly snake's. That's my main concern in the woods them and ticks.

Just about any packable gun makes a good woods loafing companion as far as I am concerned. My flintlock squirrel rifle has joined me on many such trips, as have any number of good single action revolvers, mostly chambered for cartridges starting with a "4". I guess the one gun that jumps to mind whenever I hear "woods gun", though, is my much-worn K-22 "Combat Masterpiece".

If going out on the property or back up on some BLM land, I generally grab my H&R Handi in .30-30. It is a nice short package that carries well on a single point sling attached at the wrist. It quick releases so I can get it on and off effortlessly to get in and out of a side by side. As a break action, it is very easy to just break open so you know it is unloaded and safe.

I carry a bunch of cast bullets loads over unique for plinking, and a few full power core-lokt rounds in the event I needed it for something more dangerous than a tree stump.

I often have a Model 15 or single six along too, but the Handi is my go-to.

Forty years ago this year, I bought a Marlin (can't for the life of me remember the model) bolt action .22 Mag. My Dad bought a Ruger single six with both cylinders for me for Christmas that year also (the .22 LR cylinder has never been used). Those two have been my constant woods buddies ever since, unless it's deer season.

The question of favorite woods gun?
Brings me to my favorite hunting past time of deer hunting.
When busting brush a lever action in hand is my favorite. I have owned 5 lever actions 3 Winchester model 94 30-30s, a 1886 45-70, and a BLR 7mm-08.
Currently I stand/blind hunt and a bolt action works fine.
My current woods gun is what is in my pocket or on my hip. Revolvers normally but not always. I would like to find a lever action 41mag to match my revolver just for busting brush. Maybe get lucky and shoot a few hogs.
