I hope this is not out of line for the forum. My brother just graduated from Officer Candidate School and has been stationed at Fort Bragg. His wife would like to buy him a shotgun for his birthday (and as a done with school, your onto your career) present.
They live in Raeford, just outside of Fayetteville.

She is not a gun person. She has never purchased one for sure, I'm not sure she has shot one. I'm the "gun guy" in the family so she asks me. And as my moniker says, I am on the other side of the country. I've got some makes and models recommended for her (knowing my brother and what he and I have shot together). What she needs is a store with staff who will take the time to help her out, not take advantage of the young little mom and sell her something that needs it's "Blinker fluid" filled.

Any store recommendations? Thanks for the help.

My favorite is Ed's Gun Shop in Vass, NC, not too far from Raeford off highway 1. Then there's Jims off of Yadkin Road and 2 good shops off of Bragg Blvd. Can't think of the names at the moment.

Without doubt in my experience, Gunner's Choice in Dunn, close to Fayetteville, has the best selection, best prices, AND Dwight, the owner, is very willing to deal. He is very helpful and knowledgeable with absolutely no high pressure to purchase. I have shopped there for many years and always go back.

While I was at Bragg, 08-10, the PX did not have guns and from what I saw at Carson, prices were about 10% over MSRP. Most guns, save tacticrap, sell for below MSRP, not so at the PX.

Most PX's do carry guns now but the prices aren't that great and it can be a challenge to even buy there. The post leadership can also add rules and hoops to jump through...

Sounds like I need to visit on a road trip. Now that I'm more than less retired I've been seeing the state and visiting gun shops.

Your sister in law might want to take a concealed carry class and get a CC permit. It's good for 5 years and eliminates a visit to the Sheriff's office for every handgun purchase. Your brother probably should get one too :) As a 2nd Lt. he might someday face a Ft. Hood situation. Hopefully never.

I preferred Shooters Supply on Bragg Blvd. Bragg Blvd has several pawn shops with a decent selection of guns. Two that come to mind are Carolina Pawn and Ace Pawn shop. Heading west on 74 toward Charlotte is a town called Wagram with the best selection of older Winchesters, Colts, and Smiths that I have ever seen.
