Feather Rav-9mm: Any reviews, thoughts?

I'm still in the market for a pistol caliber carbine, just can't seem to make up my mind about anything.

The feather rav-9mm seems like it has the features I need, most importantly adjustable stock (at least the .22 in their video was) so that both my wife and I can shoot (need a good 3" adjustment) comfortably.

Anybody ever shot one?
 
I own one and it is my favorite. Everyone who shoots it wants to buy it off of me. It is not as cheap as some of the other 9mm carbines, because it screams "Accessorize me."

The stock really only adjusts about an inch maybe two max. If you want a fully collaspable stock, look for a AT-9. Its the exact carbine except for the stock. All RAV-9MM parts, expect the stock, should work fine.

The recoil is next to nothing, especially with the replacement recoil springs. I've suggested it to several people. IF you can get a "used" or "scuffed" one for a discounted price, I would recommend it. I got mine at a discounted price(either $299 or $399), definitely worth price.

22x9, what is the quality like?

You sure don't hear much about them and I hunted high and low on the net for a review of it but couldn't find one...

What about customer service, are they any good?
How long have they been around?
Anybody know ANYTHING else about these guys? :confused:
 
OK...Perhaps I'm missing something here, but how do they get around the 94 crime bill phrohibiting folding/collapsible stocks on post ban weapons?

Surely all their rifles aren't pre ban.

I think because the stock only 'collapses' about 1", it's an adjustable stock. It looks to me like it could be ...uh fixed to be a bit more adjustable.

That's one of the best features on this carbine, as my wife is rather short..and I'm rather tall.

The only negative thing I've found on the pre-ban was that "the trigger felt kinda mushy". That'd be a deal breaker for me, as I'd want to use it in 3-gun matches..and mushy trigger no good.
 
On the plus side, I have seen verified pre-ban AT-9's going for $650 - $700 on Gunbroker and other places...

Pre-ban AT-9's have a metal trigger housing, the new RAV-9's are plastic. Personally, I'd probably prefer the plastic for a piece that gets that little abuse.

I wanted one, but being left-handed is a minus without any kind of brass deflector on it.
 
Sounds like the Beretta CX4 would be perfect for ya, I'm considering that as a fall back position... ;-)

The new ones are going for $550 retail out here, and I know on orders of 2 or more the dealer price is $479.... ;-)
 
The quality is nice. There's no fancy engravings, polished wood or anything of the like. Just a tube of aluminium, bolt, trigger group, springs and barrel. I like it a lot, no only because of how it shoots but also for how easily it assembles and disassembles.

As to the legalities of the "collasping" stock. In the RAV-9MM {post-ban version of the AT-9}, you can not collaspe the wire stock directly along the tube. You have to remove the stock and store it from the front. This basically makes the butt of the stock become a fore-end pistol-like grip. Since the stock isn't collaspible it is legal, bada-boom-bada-bing you have the RAV-9MM.. You can not purchase the pre-ban wire stock unless you have a AT-9 or AT-22.

I'm not going to ponder on how to make the stock more collaspible. It is possible, but I ain't doing it.

The trigger housing on mine is metal.

Their customer service is excellent. Haven't had any problem with them. Nice people.

AWI/Feather USA has been around since at least 97/98. Prior to that Feather USA was its own company. around 94-96 Feather USA went belly up for what I can tell and all intellectual property and physical property be were purchased by AWI and the current company was formed(AWI/Feather USA).

Yep... the "video" on their site is of the RAV-22, but WAAAY cool to watch. Looks like fun indeed.

As for legality of the stock, the telescoping stock on my pre-ban AR-15 doesn't collapse all the way in either, but if I attach this same stock on a post-ban AR, bada-boom-bada-bing, I'm a felon :D

I'm certainly not making fun of YOU, I'm making fun of the "law". The AR stock goes from 10.5" to 13", but it's illegal. The RAV-9 states that it is "adjustable" from 12" to 14", but it's legal... Go figger.

I like the CX4 Storm enough that I actually ordered 2 pre-ban "noname" mags for it, but I've since decided that the 9mm AR-15 is worth the extra $250 over a Beretta... So I'm donating my mags to Red so he'll absolutely HAVE to buy a 92F :neener:

I'd love to have a RAV-40, which doesn't exist, but has been listed as "coming soon" on their website for at least 2 years. :)

I think a CX4 in 10mm would be a MUST HAVE too ;)

I don't think that's the case, there's a local place that'll retail the Rav-9 for $549, I suspect the CX4 will be a bit more.

One of the things I don't like about the Rav-9 is the one year warranty, currently every firearm I own (except the Makarov) has a lifetime warranty.. Haven't had to use any, but I like that.

Will the company even be around in a year? With their marketing plan (or lack thereof), I doubt they will make much headway. If I was them I'd donate a dozen of them to the nations (well, probably not PRK) biggest firing ranges for loaner guns. Send demos to all the magazine, etc... do something.
 
Do yourself a huge favor and get a vector uzi for the same price.

I have owned one of these piles of garbage, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. They are an extremely poor design. Parts will break on you alot.

When I first got mine it wouldnt shoot 3 rounds in a row without jamming. I sent it back to the factory. They sent it back after they said they fixed it. Yet it still wouldn't cycle no matter what ammo I used. I also tried several of their modified uzi mags. To make matters worse the materials they use are such crap my sear busted not long after getting it back.

I sent it back a second time they fixed it. I just took it to a gun show and traded it for a SS springfield 1911.

Please for the love of all that is holy don't get one. Find someone who has one and go shooting with him you will see for yourself what a pile these things are. Just by pulling the trigger you will be able to tell how poor quality these guns are.

Mine was not a lemon. A co worker of mine has had one for a couple years now, and has had all the same problems.

They prey on people with their uber cool tactical look, but don't be fooled, I have seen plastic chinese toy dart guns that were more reliable than these things.

Get a combat proven design. You could even probably get a Oly 9mm carbine for the same price as a RAV9.
 
they are quite fun. never owned one, but every now and then someone would show up at the range with one.
 
I have owned a Feather Rav-22 for about a year now and I have to agree with Appaloosa 100% on this. I have experienced all the same problems with FTF and FTE with it that you will find posted on several sites. I have tried several different brands of ammo, replaced parts, and tried different mags; all to no avail. I would like to sell it, but I do not want to stick anyone with it. I am now looking at the GSG-5 for a plinker. It has been getting very good reviews overall.
 
Wow I just sent in a deposit on a At22 it seems some say they are ok and some not I need some current info recntly say the last month or so , Some say they are not even in business?, Man I have to move fast to stop the Deal if things are as bad as I'm hearing?
 
do you have any evidence that they aren't in business anymore? The last gun show had a guy with a big display. He was sold out and was taking pre-orders.
 
No all info i have they are i just placed an order but some are saying they are not I just dont want to get taken?and I would like to know that Im making a worthwile and sensible investment here? info im seeing its 50/50

i have a feather enterprises at-22 i bought in 1994,it has been totaly reliable with every kind of ammo, had maybe 1 or 2 ftf in 14 years.real neat gun. i think they stopped making it in the late 90's,& then the company later re appeared as feather industries. i dont know if changes were made from the older ones,but i paid 250 for mine & its been accurate & reliable, + lots of fun to shoot.with the telescoping stock, it makes a nice survival 22 & stores in a small case.removing the barrel makes it even more compact...
