Fed up with taurus intl.

I had a Taurus PT-99 AFS for about 15 years (my very first handgun). I shot it sparingly but in the last year of ownership I put about 1K rounds through it. I did send it back to Taurus Inter'l a little over a year ago for general servicing and that the gun was shooting a little high and I could get it sighted in correctly. It took about six weeks to get it back and Taurus also sent me a target to show that it was sighted in correctly. All was well when I shot it and I was satisfied with their customer service.

My wife and I have as our ready protection guns a Taurus and a Rossi .38 Spl (+P rated) 5 shot 2" revolvers. Have had both for years. I shoot mine regular (range session every month or two). If we have a problem, I'll complain. So far no problems. But I have read complaints about S&W, Colt, Glock, Ruger, etc. If you read the threads the only gun people go out of their way to praise reliability and customer service is the Hi-Point.

I've never had dealings with Taurus Intl. but I can't believe they could be any worse than Beretta/Franchi. I been waiting 6 mos. for an answer on AL48 parts I'd like to buy from them.

I've seen several brand new, out of the box Taurus semiautos fail. (One particular model.)

Of course, all semiautos should be cleaned and lubricated before taking them out for the first time, but...

Shouldn't a gun go bang without malfunction right out of the box?

In all cases, it has been a 9mm with "Millennium" stamped on the slide. Not sure what the model name/# is. It's a commonly sold gun, and some of them come with pink grips.

The malfunction is the same every time: after firing, the slide does not retract all the way to the front, it stops about 1/8 inch from the end of the frame.

A bit of lubrication helps them out in most cases.

You answered your own question. NO, a gun "shouldn't go bang right out of the box."

Guns are normally shipped with preservatives, instead of lubricants. The gun may have to sit in it's box for an extended period of time before it's sold. It's always been a standard to clean a new rifle prior to shooting, if only to assure that we won't bulge the barrel from heavy lubes.

Pistols and revolvers should be normally cleaned, and properly lubed, PRIOR to shooting. NOT doing so is asking for problems.;)

Got the Taurus PT145 back today that I sent in on 12/22/08. Nice and clean, repaired and works fine.

I have no complaints with their service this time.

Moose,
I understand your problem. Please sell your Taurus and buy a Nighthawk Custom or a Hi-Point. Maybe then you might be satisfied.

I once had a customer return a $4000 computer just because her son couldnt calibrate a Nascar analog steering wheel. Was a nightmare to our entire mom & pop shop.

It just goes to show, you can't please ALL of the people ALL of the time. No matter what you do. Maybe next time you will send the entire gun in for repair like the warranty says.

I hope you learned something from your ordeal.

oldFred, i DID WHAT TAURUS TOLD ME TO DO! it is not like i was trying to sneak something through or cheatin some way. they completely droped the ball on their end, and it ended up costing me $60.00 and almost 4 months of waiting because of THEIR SCREW UP! i just wanted to BUY these parts originally.

I don't know anything about the warrany and customer service from Taurus. The three I own have never had a single problem. If you do have problems with them they aren't by themselves. It took me two months and three phone calls to Ruger last year to get a couple of small parts for my grandson's 10/22. The fact they wouldn't charge me for them helped with the wait though.

Never owned a Taurus but a friend did and he did some work on it and it broke and he sent it back and they fixed it despite his tinkering. No questions asked.

I had a pt140 and got a new safety lever in one week. I bought an ultralite 85 that was junk out of the box. The cylinder would not rotate when loaded. I sent it in, and 7 weeks later I got it back. Quess what, it still didn;t turn. I even sent a letter saying it had problems when loaded. This time it only took 1.5 weeks to get it back. Something about a letter with the words lawyer, loss of life due to lemon gun, gets a response. I will not make another Taurus purchase. So much for lifetime warranty, when it takes a lifetime to get the warranty work done.

I returned a PT-92 once for repair of the DA return spring. Two weeks later, I got it back, repaired, tuned. cleaned, with a test target, fired for accuracy.

Another 10k rounds later, the spring failed again, instead of sending it away, I simply ordered a full set of springs from Numrich's and did it myself.

Over 30k rounds through this one, and never a failure that was anything but "wear and tear," requiring only replacement springs.

I have a Taurus 9-shot .22lr revolver I bought new last year. I've had more trouble with that revolver then any firearms I've ever owned. After 2 trips back to Taurus and a replaced cylinder it is still a POS.

From the poor CS I received from Taurus I won't buy another. The owner of the shop where I bought it has had several POSs from Taurus. He'll no longer stock them and tries to discourage people from ordering them.

It seems like hit or miss with the customer service. Some people praise them, while others say it is pitiful. I do know my Pt140 was had for $150.00 in new condition, because the safety was missing. The shop owner got mad because his wife didn't notiice it when she took it in. He said he wanted rid of it, maybe he didn't know it would be sent as a replacement free of charge. I have since got to know him really well, and his shop has become my favorite. He takes a no B.S. approach. He is one of the few left that gives a damn about his customers, and looks out for himself, as far as future return business is concerned. Two weeks ago, I was in there, he had a bushmaster on the rack, I ask about it and he said $900 but it's sold. I told him I would take all he had for $900, he laughed and said,"why because I didn't jack the price up on a New, old stock gun?" He has the right idea, there are 2 shops I do not even go into anymore because of the outrageous prices, and this was before Obama. Smoky Mountain Outfitters is a joke, Taurus pt22's for $300, phoenix arms .22's for $200, cheapest hi-point is $225. I use to just laugh, I can imagine the prices now!!

The black plastic grips (which I didn't want) on my PT-22 broke and Taurus promptly sent me the wooden grips I asked for to replace them.

I broke my Model 85 by dry-firing it without snap-caps (the guy at the gunstore told me that would be OK). I sent the gun to Taurus and they mailed me a new gun.

I wouldn't take a Taurus

if someone offered to GIVE IT to me.

I have enough headaches without adding more.

I owned a PT-111, first generation. The trigger sucked but that wasn't the main problem. The extractor went walkabout shortly after I got it. Taurus apparently changed the spec's slightly on the newer generations. Despite sending them PICTURES of the two different extractors they couldn't get it through their heads that they were different. They sent me the wrong extractor twice: once the newer model despite me being very specific with them, and the second time the newer extractor just without the cutout for the loaded chamber indicator. In the end I rigged and reinstalled the old extractor. I ended up trading the POS in later because of a different issue after it was "fixed" by Taurus.
CS stank out loud. There was one nice rep. and two jerks... including one who I could barely understand because he was rattling a piece of candy around in his mouth while I was trying to talk to him.

i bought one of there 357 wheel guns,stainless.6 in barrel. It would shoot a foot high, everyone at the range tried it,with out saying anything to them, and they shoot and look over at me,They say,why is it shooting a foot high,?
i say beats me,its adjusted down all the way,
so i sent it off, with a note, and target,,this is shotting off the bench, with sand bags,so its not just off hand shooting,so anyhow. i get it back after a few months, and i paid for shiping,i get it back with one of there targets, one shoot was a foot high, the other 5 was a neat group close to the bullseye.i bet they shot one, which was high, then moved the target to where It was shooting,I go back to the range,NO dif. they fixed nothing, I siad thats it,I sent it to a gun smith, and had them fix it.MY last from them,,
everyone I know had to send there guns back, and at 60 to 90 bucks to send back now adays,, NO thanks I;ll buy S/W

Ever consider a higher front sight? Millett makes them.

I have a S&W Model 39-2 that appeared to be sighted in for a 200 yard zero, from the factory. After S&W looked at it twice, back in the days of local service centers, the 'smith there put a Millett sight on the front, and the problem was solved.:D

I should post some pics of my Taurus,,I have so much money in this hand gun,it would blow your mind,,if i told you how much i have it,I cant even believe it my self.good thing my wife never found out how much I spent on custum gun smithing,

Haha, that's like those guys who put $20k into their $5k used Civics...

Sorry, Taurus is just known as an economy brand. Good guns, but marketed as economic alternatives.
