Taurus warranty service rant

You get what you pay for. Service included.

Exactly.

The Taurus business model does not include concierge customer service. You will get your gun fixed or your money back but it will take some time. That's partly why Taurus can offer their firearms at the price-point we all enjoy.

For every ying, there is a yang. :)

If my Taurus broke...I'd probably just buy a new one. Get my old one back from service and sell it. We're not talking about a $2000 STI here, cmon. It's a cheap gun, don't expect them to really care all that much.

The only difference I've seen is Hi-Point. Their CS department seems to be top notch, but their guns are in fact butt ugly, so maybe they feel they have to be good to get people to buy them and talk them up.

I own many Taurus handguns, and have sent a slew of them back for service. Seems like the factory just pumps them out, but lets Taurus USA's repair team put them in the condition that they SHOULD have been in when they left the factory. I sort of feel sorry for the Miami team, they get to deal with the factory slop and all the customer annoyance and irritation. What a job!!!

Over the years I've learned that a trip in for repairs is pretty much part of Taurus ownership. I've never had to send one in a second time, though. Once seems to do it. At least in my experience. YMMV. I'm sure others will have the multi-trip in for repairs horror story.

I've never had to send mine in, but judging from all the things I read, it isn't worth it. I think if I ever have a problem, I'll just pay a smith and be done with it.

Fixed it for ya

Your post is dishonest. Taurus honors its warranty. Some folks just feel as if they should be treated like royalty and refuse to see reality.

Taurus customer support

NC-Mike sound like a Taurus plant to me! I've had 3 Taurus revolvers and a Taurus auto, all of them have had to go back to taurus for repair. I sold all but one and hope to get rid of it soon. Taurus did not offer a shipping label for one of my revolvers and I only had it for 2 months when it broke and it was brand new, nor did they ever send a refund for the shipping I payed,,,,Thank God this is America and I have a choice! I choose never to buy there guns again nor support there lying customer support personal,,,just one more month,,,just one more month,,,,,just one more month,,,5 months later. Bullsh*t dont keep telling me that it will just be a few more weeks and putting me off. I had to send my Ruger back to the factory for repair and they paid for shipping and had it back to me in two 1/2 weeks. I'm not saying that other guns dont break but I am saying that I value my life and my familes life alot more than to own a cheap revolver. This is my personal opinion, if you dont like it,,,,o-well.

If you really "valued" your life and your families lives so much, you might not have bought a Taurus in the first place, seeing as how they always fall apart and have to go back for service...

This is my last post in this thread, this is getting ridiculous and the thread will probably be locked if it continues in this direction.

Taurus plant. Hoo boy...

Your post is dishonest. Taurus honors its warranty. Some folks just feel as if they should be treated like royalty and refuse to see reality.

How so? They repeatedly lie to people about when their firearm will be returned, which makes them dishonest. Their turnaround times are extremely long, so they are not timely.

I never said they wouldn't honor the warranty, however the way they do so is neither honest nor timely.

I could understand your argument if people were complaining about not getting their gun back in a week or two, but 3 to 6 months? What you're basically saying is that if you order a burger at noon, you shouldn't be upset if it arrives at your table at 6pm - after all, it did get to your table 'eventually'.

The reality is that they have crappy service and horrible turnaround time. To say they don't is not 'seeing reality'.

I've only sent one firearm in on warranty, 1979, RNMBH, S/S, 357. It took Ruger 14 weeks to acknowledge even receiving the gun, another 10 weeks to find it, another 7 weeks to admit that it should never have left the factory and another 12 weeks to issue a certificate for a new gun at a dealer of my choice. Lets see, by my count thats 10 months give or take a few hours. I don't call for warranty work on new guns, I fix it or I pay to have it fixed. I've never owned a gun that was recalled.
I guess I should be called a whiner!!!!!!!!!!

First let me say that I don't consider myself to be a gun snob--in my collection I have pistols ranging from S&W and Colt to Hi-Point and Jimenez (different tools for different jobs). That being said, I have also had Taurus pistols in the past and I have dealt with their customer service--which I found to be condescending and out-right rude. I no longer own any Taurus products nor will I purchase any in the future.

A lifetime warranty should only need to be used infrequently and should entitle me to polite treatment and prompt service. I received none of the above from Taurus.

It reminds me of something that happened in my active duty days. Every week or so the Snap-On tool truck would arrive near the depot hangars and many of the contract aircraft maintenance techs would rush over to purchase replacement tools. I asked one the contractors why he and his ilk paid so much for the premium tools when they could get a lifetime warranty for any Craftsman tool they bought at Sears. He replied that he had tried that, but had gotten tired of spending so much time at the Sears customer service desk.

The bottom line is, it does take some time, but your gun will be fixed. In the microwave and drive-through era we live in, anything that doesn't happen NOW, makes people crazy.

That's just weapons grade bull-onium. I shipped my raging bull before Thanksgiving, it took Taurus until April to decide they wouldn't fix it and instead send a check. I called the vice-president twice a week for 2 months to get a response. No more Tauri for me
At least they did better for you after havin mine 15 months they sent it back (broken still) and said the model had been discontinued and parts where no longer available. That was the straw that broke the camels back I paid a gunsmith $37 and he machined the part in 3 days. Now if he can do that why couldnt taurus?

dh~I never said they wouldn't honor the warranty, however the way they do so is neither honest nor timely.

I can they sent mine back even more disassembled than when they got it!

People flame others for ragging on Taurus, but its this kind of story that warrants it. I ordered some replacement parts for a raging bull (for a customer, I won't own anymore Taurus guns) over two-years ago. I've never seen them. I ended up having to fabricate replacements. Never again Taurus. And I'll never recommend them either.

I hate to sound all "thehighroad.org", BUT-- you generally get what you pay for (Hi Points excluded!)-- I got my PT111 for under $300- it as worked like a Swiss watch, but if it goes down, I will send it in and probably begin the waiting game.

Good luck...

Ditto

Your walking a road many others including I have walked before, Their customer service is one of the reasons I will not buy another Taurus, and lets not talk about having to pay shipping.

Sorry you had to learn about these terrible quality guns the hard way.

Cheap guns and terrible service. Taurus = POS

Dump that thing (At the bottom of a lake) And start over with a quality gun. Ruger makes very good, built like tank .44s in the RH and SRH varieties.

It's a shame.

I'd really like a MilPro .45 because AFAIK, it is the most compact .45 with its capacity.

I'd really like a package like that, but I just hear too dang many bad reviews about their quality, and of course their warranty service.

It's a friggin' shame.

As to whether or not they read these type of message boards...

Either they are not wise enough to see the importance in it, or they are too contemptuous to care what kind of reputation they have.

Am I the only one that finds himself wishing some other company was making the guns Taurus is designing? I love the SA/DA idea of the 24/7, the Mill Pro series seems perfect for a CCW gun...but after hearing about this level of service and quality, I just can't risk it.

FWIW-I'm not a gun snob, and I'm certainly not well-heeled. I have to save and plan ahead to buy a gun, which means I can't afford to buy something that will only work 'probably', and which will only get repaired 'eventually.'

And if Hi-Point can do CS correctly, there's just flat out no excuse for Taurus. Sorry.

Larry

I've experienced problems only with my two Taurus .22 revolvers (94 and 941). The 941 malfunctioned right out of the box and had to go back to Miami. To their credit they fixed it with turnaround time of 2 weeks. Doubt I'll ever buy another Taurus handgun.
