Is it customary for manufacturers to use different size primers for the same caliber? I will try to post pics of what I mean. The box I bought today looks as if the bullet heads were hand polished to a bright shine and had smaller primers. These were purchased at a local Walmart. If the photos load, the one on the right is the ones in question, the left one was purchased elsewhere. I haven't fired any of the new ones yet.

There are SPP cases out there for .45acp, I'm not an expert or a reloader but I've seen them.

If you bought the WM special Federal, it is probably the plated bullet also.

It shoots fine for me, I'll have to check when I'm at home to see if it is SPP or LPP, I honestly never thought to look.

Small Pistol Primer
Large Pistol Primer

Just two standard sizes of primer and primer pocket, I think both have magnum variants with a bit more priming compound, but again, I'm no expert.

Also wasn't sure if this will affect primer strike. mine seems to hit just a little off center. Guess I will see next range trip.

I fired 300 rounds of Walmart 9mm $9.97 Federal 'Champions' without any "hiccups". I noticed somewhat more muzzle flash then with some other brand ammo but It appears to be good paper punching stuff.

Winchester uses small pistol primers in their 45acp "Win-Clean" ammo. I`m not sure but suspect Federal is doing the same. The stuff is intended for indoor shooting where heavy metal pollution needs controlling. they will shoot just fine.

but can throw you off as a reloader since they don't use large pistol primers.

Shot both yesterday and couldn't tell the difference. At $16 a box I'm not complaining.
