I was back at it this morning. Driving down the road I can see into the field I will be hunting. A couple dozen deer are already feeding. I got all set in my spot at about 0645. The deer were already moving and when they came down the hill I was busted quick. Thought I had a good hiding spot. I have my shooting sticks, good seat, back pressed against a tree and rifle pressed into my shoulder. Let one of the 165 grain Fusions fly from my Howa .308. No tracking. Deer did not take a step. Hit her in the shoulder, bullet took a detour to the right and came out about 6" further back than it came in. Paced off the shot to about 210 yards. Pencil sized entrance wound, quarter sized exit. $20 a box compared to $36 a box for Nosler Ballistic tips. Wish I had pics, but no camera.

I think that your story should have started out with the fact that you sighted in your rifle at X yards and found it to be consistent.
Starting a discussion in the middle and not knowing how it all started - does not good for anyone that doesn't understand how you got to that point.
Things like which state and which part of the state - where you were hunting and also the time of day and temperature also has a lot to do with it.
Not just the rifle, ammo and caliber.

I have shot many deer with Federal Fusion ammo and have had no issues.
I guess you are one of the people that has come to realize that it doesn't take premium ammo to kill a poor little old defenseless whitetail deer.

:what::what::what: You mean to tell me it doesn't take a super duper, wizz bang, uber strong, shoulder crunching, $100.00 per box of ammo, wife wants to leave you because you are stupid with money, tank killing, go through an engine block, MAGNUM to kill bambi????? :fire: SAY IT AINT SOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :D

Glad you got it all sorted out chains. One day I will track down what the BC is on those for you so you will know.

Congrats on the deer. I've been using the Federal Fusion ammo in my Marlin 336A 30-30 for 5 years now. My rifle really likes this ammo as well as the Win Power Point (PP) ammo. However I stuck with the Fusion ammo as it is just a smidge more accurate. As a added benefit I get a bonded bullet in the process though truth be told a bonded bullet isn't really necessary for the 30-30.

Every deer I've shot with this ammo has been a one shot proposition with complete pass throughs from 35 yards out to 140 yards. I've been wanting to try this bullet on black bear however the bear haven't been very cooperative over the past few years:( I'm going to try a box of the .44 mag Fusion ammo in Marlin 1894SSS next, I hope that it likes the Fusion rounds as much as my 336A.

My little bro loves the fusion ammo. He gave some to my other bro who shot a deer a few months ago with it. It dropped about 20 yards away IIRC. I need to get some of that stuff too methinks...

I would use just regular ol' Core-Lokt or Winchester Super X, but I can only get about a 3-4" group at 200 yards with that ammo. I can get half that with NBT and the Fusion. I was going for accuracy with the NBT, not I can get that accuracy for a lot less $$.

The BC on the 150 gr fusion bullet is .255 not exactly great but out of a 308 within 200 yards no deer will live long enough to complain about it :) The 180gr bullet is .483 ALOT better IMHO.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I'm pretty darn sure that the .308 Win 150gr fusion bullet has a better BC than .255. I say that because in this article http://www.realguns.com/archives/120.htm the author got a better BC rating than that for the 30-30 150gr Fusion bullet. There is no way that a 150gr FP 30-30 bullet is going to have a better BC rating than a 150gr SBT.

Federal Fusion bullets are sold as Speer Deep Curl. Look on their website and you can see their BC. They do not have the 150gr and 165gr PSP they only have the 150-170 RNSP (30-30) and the 180gr PSP.

Though both companies fall under ATK they are not the same bullets, and it sounds like the same technology is used in the making of both. Aside from the 30-30 at least all of the Fusion line of bullets incorperate a boat tail. This is not the case with the Deep Curl bullet they are a flat base that is slightly concave at the base. http://www.speer-bullets.com/products/rifle/hunting/deepcurl.aspx

The Fed Fusion 180 gr. group very well in my Ruger Hawkeye .300WM. They grouped considerably better than Win PP and Win Ballistic Silvertip (which use moly-coated Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets).

Most of my hunting is done in a no-rifle zone, but I've taken two bucks with the Fusions over the last two seasons. As one would expect, when hit in the vitals, they drop like they were hit by a freight train.

I have some 60 grain fusion ammo for my .223, and it is very reliable out to 200 yards on hogs, and I will most likely use it to take down axis and javalina next week at deer camp. Bang for the buck on this is excellent IMHO. I would like to do a water test and recover a few rounds but I can't shoot at the range because its duck season ATM.
