federal +p+ hi-shok 9mm good?

I know nothing about Federal +P+, but at that price how could you go wrong?
Hmm...if there's any more left by mid week, I just might buy some myself.
 
Federal 9BPLE??

Yes, that is EXCELLENT ammunition, by any measure, if your pistol is rated for +P+ ammunition.

I shot and carried the standard-pressure 9BP for years, and it was probably the most accurate 9mm ammunition I have ever shot.

Well, the Beretta M9 uses the hot 9mm NATO, so I don't see how +p+ would be detrimental for a 92f (about the same thing.) Same with the Ruger at least IMO. There might be a problem down the line if you shot a steady diet of +p+. Or maybe not.

I don't know for sure, you may want to check with Federal, but I do not think that 'Hi-Shock' is the same ammunition as federal 'Classic' 9BP (std velocity), or Federal's Law Enforcement verson, 9BPLE (115@1300).

I am a large fan of Federal's Hydra-Shock in 45ACP, but not much experience with Federal 9X19 ammunition other than 9BP Classic and 9BPLE Law Enforcement.

I almost forgot. There was a brief flirtation with a few boxes of Federal 'Personal Defense' ammo a couple of years ago. It wouldn't cycle the slide on a BHP. That stuff was a waste of money.

A Ruger P89 will shoot a nuclear bomb if it fits. IMHO
If any gun will do +P+ it will.

It is loaded to the max SAMMI speck 38,500.Rugers handle it just fine.I go to wolf extra lb springs on any thing else but still limit the number of rounds shot.Not to many PD will approve it.I believe NH uses it.It is a wicked round.In a light compact the recoil is really bad.My favorite ammo.

Bad To The Bone

Many officers carry both the 92Sf and this load.

NATO loads are +P and work well in the 92SF. This load is a tad hotter (perhaps) and will not hurt your pistol. Shoot it all the time and, yes, you may wear it out faster.

As far as street use, this is good load with an impressive record.
 
My shooting buddy works for Homeland Security and this was their carry ammo. He was able secure me a good supply of it when the agency switched to .40 cal. I shoot it through my CZ 75 and his Ruger P89, and I've never had any issues with it. Mike
 
If you are a jello junkie than this ammo and the Winchester Ranger 115+P+ ammo are a big failure. If you go by actual street shootings both the Federal and Ranger 115+P+ were top dogs for many years.

This ammo has street credibility and has proven its worth my times over in the LE community. The price is not fabulous but no ammo is anymore.
 
I've bought plenty of these round from CTD.com. They work fine. Never had a problem. You just made me want to order another box. This is where I mainly buy my ammo. Or if I want bulk ammo, I buy from Ammoman.com
 
Rugers, Glocks, Berettas should be OK with +P+, IMO. I shoot +P out of my aluminum-framed 3913, but am a little nervous about +P+ (worried about long-term frame cracking, mostly, which isn't an issue with non-aluminum pistols).

The link in the OP gives the manufacturer's part number as FED9BPLE, so it's the good stuff. I do remember the last box of 9BP I had said "Hi-Shok" on the end as well, IIRC.

The 9BP and the 9BPLE are, so far, reliable in my pistols.

Cor-Bon 115 is reliable in my Kahrs and, from what I have read, gets up to speed in a short barrel. When I run out of Cor-Bon, I'll try Federal in the Kahrs.

Cor-Bons all copper bullet isn't reliable in the Kahrs or in a BHP, so I haven't fooled around with the DPX any more.

I have a BHP barrel that will occasionally stutter with generic ball, but, so far, works just dandy with 9BP or 9BPLE.

Speer 124 Gold Dot is an exercise in exasperation in my CZ Compact. Federal 9BP and 9BPLE seem to be reliable in the 75 Compact.

The Federal seems to be reliable in a Sig 228 as well. Time will tell.

I really do not want to have to use specific ammunition for each individual platform.

So far, the Federal may prove to be the ammunition of choice for my 9X19s. That said, I haven't tried it at all in the Kahrs, a Colt Pocket 9, and very little in the rest. I am working on it though.

This is an ongoing evaulation of my pistols and my magazines. And my round count isn't large enough to be meaningful, but, so far, the Cor-Bon 115 for the Kahrs and 9BP or 9BPLE for the remainder are lookin' pretty good.

I do not plan to start all over every time a mfgr offers a 'new. improved' or 'tactical' version to their product line. Gov't agencies may have that budget, I do not. I do know that the Federal 9BP/9BPLE is, so far, living up to its reputation of reliability.

I hope the numbnuts at Federal don't discontinue the stuff in favor of a newer, more advertised product with less of a historical reputation.

The next time I buy a batch of 9mm ammunition, I 'spect it'll be a mix of Federal 9BP and 9BPLE.

If you're getting the impression that I really like the 9BP loadings, you're correct.

PS. I just re-read this post. It seems that I used the words 'so far' an awful lot. I have not fired a meaningful amt of ammunition, nor chronographed it, or tested it through barriers. My only consideration was a reputation for reliability and effectiveness based upon written obversations from folks whose impressions I value.

So far, my obversations regarding reliabiliy through my magazines, out the ejection ports of my pistols agree.

If the federal 9BPLE throws the brass into the next county I would not use it.My XD compact would do over 50'.

think a Sigma 9VE will be good with them? it's kind of on the light side...
 
My carry ammo for my 9MM is:Federal Premium 9mm Luger (+P+) 124 gr. Hydra-Shok JHP [P9HS3G] I use it in my S&W 3913, Beretta 9000S and Kel-Tec PF and buy it for $17.50 per box of 50.

My G26 was hitting 3" high at 12 feet with Win Ranger 127gr +P+. I am guessing that the barrel was tipping before the bullet left the barrel.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong...

I thought Federal's Hydra-Shock ammo was considered old outdated technology, and ineffective compared to todays SD ammunition choices.
