Good morning all . . .

Is there any reason that I should not use the hot load 55 grain Federal XM193 metal case BT in my Remington 700?

If this ammo should not be used, what would be a good choice for strictly target shooting with the Remington 700?

XM193 is 5.56 NATO, not .223 Remington. With a .223 Rem chamber you will see pressure signs on the XM193 brass. I would not recommend firing XM193 in the Rem 700 you have.
I'm sure the 700 action will withstand the pressure increase of the type of abuse. But to really ring out a 55 gr FMJ, I'd get the chamber opened up to 5.56 NATO specs and enjoy.
For a target load, you'll have to try several different types to find what your 700 likes. Most likely Federal Gold Match. Beware of price shock. Almost time to get a reloader.
:) :) :D

The .223 SAAMI chamber in the Remington 700 has a different throat than the 5.56mm NATO chamber that the XM193 is designed for.

Are you looking for a precise target load at any price or an affordable target load? If its the latter, take a look at the Winchester offerings in their USA line of .223 for good cheap, plinking ammo. If its the former, the 68gr and 69gr match rounds are very nice and you can probably push the 75gr and 77gr loads as well.

I have been shooting XM193 out of my 223 CZ Carbine with good results.

My CZ has a 1:12 barrel which is perfect for the 55 grain XM193. It does bark a little more, but it does group good.
