FEDEX doesn't ship firearms?

Thats crazy

I just shipped off a pistol today for some work. I told them it was a pistol and that I had it unloaded and had rendered it incapable of firing in the state it was in. They asked again to verify that the gun was unloaded and that I was only shipping it to the company for work. I told them this was correct and they gave me no problems. In fact, the package girl kinda touched my gun a little and smiled at me...I might have to have another problem soon... ;)

It was automatically shipped Certified Mail (the most secure postal method) to Springfield Armory. Total cost? About $28.00.

Certified mail is hardly the most secure method. It's not much more secure than parcel post. The most secure mailing method is registered mail. A constant signature train is required for that class of mail. I've alway used insured priority mail.

I've shipped several guns through Fedex, so unless its a new rule........

Hey, the local UPS store won't ship guns, the dip owner said "ever since Columbine the rules change."

I was like "*** does one thing have to do with another?"

So, I just go to the UPS hub (farther away but whatever)....all they want to see is the FFL copy.

End of the story, some people/places just like to make up their own rules.

USPS will ship for folks it is just far more costly and for dealers they have a form to fill out. Handguns may actually be cheaper to ship USPS than the 22 dollar fedex minimum.

Maybe a Mod will make a "Shipping Firearms" Sticky.

Yes, You can ship your firearm via Fedex, UPS, USPS, Roadway , ABF, Yellow Freight, etc. You just have to follow their rules. (which are on their websites).

Kinkos, The UPS Store, Mailboxes Etc, are FRANCHISEE's (i.e. Independent businesses) and are not COMMON CARRIERS. That's the rub. While it has the FRANCHISORS' name on the outside, it is not owned by that company. You have to take it to the COMMON CARRIER'S facility to ship it.

Print out a copy of the carrier's FAQ regarding firearm shipments with you when you go there, just in case you end up dealing with the person who was sleeping during "Shipping Firearms" training.

Actually, some franchisees can elect to accept long guns for shipment. I do so regularly through one outlet -- and across the street is an identically-named (but differently owned) outlet that refuses all guns.

But both Fedex and UPS shipping centers are happy for the business, so long as I follow their rules.

Scout26-
Thanks! That seems to be what happened to me, and now the world is starting to make sense.

Except, of course, that I emailed FEDEX to protest, and the respondent said FEDEX no longer shipped firearms. Then I emailed the respondent with the FEDEX website posting of exactly what that needed for firearms shipment, and he never replied.

There was certainly a sense that I was a pariah or a leper when I went to the kinko/FEDEX shop in South Hill. I don't need to go there again.
