I'm considering joining the evil empire and purchasing a compact / subcompact Glock, probably paired with a shoulder rig.

I'm bouncing between the Glock 27, 36 and 39. The 36 is the largest and heaviest of the bunch, but loads the .45acp, a cartridge with almost a century on the proving grounds. The 27 is smaller, lighter, higher cap for the weight, but I'm not really sold on .40. The 39 fits in between size-wise, is lighter, and packs the .45 GAP, a new cartridge but which closely mimics the .45 ACP, just in a smaller package.

ATM I'm leaning towards the .45GAP.

Any feedback from owners of these models is greatly appreciated.

well you can't go wrong with a glock. i am not a fan of baby glocks or glocks in any other caliber than 9mm. but if i was to get a baby glock i would get the model 26.

as far as a shoulder holster, i have and like the miami classic, works well.

Since I've done questions where I say, "...and don't say Glock..." and SURE ENOUGH someone does...

on behalf of non-GLock persons everywhere, my answer is:

Skip the Glock and get an XD. Tried & true, reliable, great ergos, and fun to shoot.

And, yes, it will shoot underwater. :neener:

Q

i also agree to the xd i have a sc that has been 100% and great to shoot, and very concealable. i try not to hyjack a thread to badly by going in an oposite ir different direction than the op, but you do have a point i love the xd's.

The XD's are several ounces heavier, and the subcompact is not available in .45.

I'm not a Glock fan, I wasn't thrilled to be looking through their product line either, but I committed myself to doing this particular purchase by the numbers and all the numbers come up Glock.

Glock 23

Given that you are going with a shoulder holster and open to a .40, I would go Glock 23 .40 is a proven caliber....and for 4 extra ounces beyond the G27, you have 6 more rounds and for most people an easier gun to handle.

Glock 27 = 9 rounds, 27 ounces loaded
Glock 23 = 15 rounds, 31 ounces loaded

Glock 36 = 6 rounds, 27 ounces loaded
Glock 39 = 8 rounds, 25 ounces loaded

I have a G36, and love it.

A little while back, a friend was trying to dump a G30 and couldn't get anything for it. I bought it, wondering what I was going to use it for. They are both a joy to carry and shoot - G30 in the winter, or on trails; G36 in the summer, or places I want to be inconspicuous. The G36 goes well in a pocket holster, but the G30 has 4 more rounds and can also accept G21 mags.

My point is to consider the G30 also. In a shoulder holster, it won't make a big difference, but if you want to carry IWB or pocket, the G36 is a better choice, based upon my experience.

Based on internet talk it seems the Glock 36 is the one model that has some issues with reliability. I am not personally a fan of the GAP. It is hard to tell from your post how experienced you are with handguns and the Glock 27 is pretty snappy in .40. I like the .40, just not in the sub-compact Glock 27.

I would reccomend either the 17,19, or 26 as a first Glock. Just pick the size that you like.

I, too, think it best to steer clear of .45GAP. It's difficult enough to find ammunition for it, let alone having to deal with its cost.

And in my estimation the G27 is not the gun for everybody. It's quite simple to get the first shot off, but the others that follow can be a bit of an adventure.

The G36 is not as comfortable to shoot as the G30 because the recoil push is not as spread out in the hand.

I'm glad I'm not the one making this decision!

i believe that the .45 gap was good inititaive, bad decision. ammo is to much and hard to find, good idea but just not what was needed.

I have a Glock Model 39 and am quite happy with it.

I also carry a Glock Model 30, which is a bit smaller but heavier than the Model 19/23/32/38 series. It's slightly bigger than the Model 36 and since you said you'll be carrying in a shoulder rig, you might want to look at the Model 30 over the Model 36. You also get 4 more rounds in the Model 30 over the Model 36.

I've replaced all my .40S&W handguns for .45GAP handguns. Less felt recoil and faster follow up shots with the .45GAP over the .40S&W.
More state law enforcement agencies use .45GAP than .357SIG and 10mmAuto combined. :neener:

I vote for the Glock 26. It's a great little gun. Glock IMHO makes the best in the .9mm line of pistols. In a .45 I'm a 1911 guy and have a couople of Kimber Ultra's.

My daily carry is a S&W 442/642 and/or the Glock 26.

Of the choices you lies I'd get the Glock 36. I too am not a fan of the .40 caliber and find the Glock 27 to be a little "snappy". The small light frame & slide absorb very little recoil. I like Sig P 220 & 229 & HK P2000 & USP in the .40 if I were ever to get one.

Sigh, I knew there was a reason I thought this question was a bad idea.

I believe you've misquoted me.

Any feedback from owners of these models is greatly appreciated.

..and yes, I'm having a bit of regret :p

I second the 26. I was going to get a 27 but ended up with a 26 and after getting a 23 I'm glad I went with a 9mm for the subcompact. Also if you are using a shoulder holster I'd reconsider a subcompact. Unless you are 90lbs you could conceal a compact (19/23) just fine and they are way easier to grab in a hurry. I have heard that .45GAP isn't going to be around much longer.

Over the years I've carried Beretta (9 and 40), H&K (40) and Sig (40), as duty weapons. I've shot several G models, but was never sold. A year ago I got a G30, 45ACP, and was hooked. I'm not a "gun guy" so I'm not a range junkie, but I shoot fairly well, generally. With the G30, I shot in the high 90's, right out of the box, first time pulling the trigger. Easy to shoot and not nearly as much recoil as I anticipated. I'm very pleased with the the pistol. Now if I could find a comfortable concealed carry holster...

If at all possible, I'd recommend renting each of these, to try them out.

Ammo availability may be an issue someday, and .45 ACP is an old standby!

We own three Glocks, G17, G19 & G21, and all have been outstanding!

I've rented a G30 on two occasions, putting 200 rounds through it both times, and loved it! I shot it about as well as my G21, which is to say, center-cored targets at 30 feet with two magazines per target.

The G30 is a bit blocky, but I have long fingers, so NBD. This was to be my next gun purchase... Note: I would want the Pearce pinky extensions on the magazines.

Also, the new G30 SF (Slim Frame) is available now.

The G30 gives you the accessory rail (for bedside duty) and the potential to shoot 10 mm with a conversion barrel and magazines, as I do with my G21.

At one time (see attached), the G30 was considered a "Compact".

My range doesn't have a G36 to rent, only to sell. It is one handy-sized .45 ACP! But it also has the highest love/hate relationship history of any Glock model I've read up on... Try and rent one first.

XD's are nice, but they simply don't have Glock's resumé...

Get what you like, but I'd recommend against th 45 GAP as well. I, personally, feel well armed with my G17 and 9mm is no slouch, no matter what the smallpenasyndromaphobes say.
