Hello, I am messing around trying to come up with something pro-2nd amendment to put have engraved on the Anvil Arms lower I plan to buy pretty soon. So far this is what I have come up with, if there are any ideas, comments, suggestions, etc. please let me know. Dont be nice, if you think something looks stupid or out of place let me know (awaits the onslaught)!!

ETA - ... and before anyone says the quality sucks, the original is a vector image. I saved it for here as a jpeg so it loads quickly.

Doesn't the NRA have a banner of something like that. With just "The right to bear arms ..."? This one came to mind but I thought it was more like yours.

Scott22,

How big is the actual engraved artwork going to be? Do you know how the engraving will be done?

The people doing the work can advise you better than I can, but if they're engraving with a mill you're probably going to lose a lot of fine line detail... the tip of that cutter is only so small.

Then you are limited to the diameter of the laser spot. I would personally feel uncomfortable in getting a good result from lines that fine, but they may be able to do it.

Thx rc109a, I also posted it in the AvilArms area of ar15.com to get some input from people that have had his engravings. Everything I have heard about Anvil Arms so far has been nothing but good. I can't wait. I mostly posted here to get some input on the actual image on things people like/hate and suggestions to make it better or other ideas. Im still toying with what I want to put on it but that design is winning so far even though I am not completely satisfied.

I would find someone else to do my engraving, I was very unhappy with my AA engraving experience. Search my name here and you should find the thread.

I do believe Anvil Arms could do it, but I think the finer lines in the script won't be as clear as you like them. Here's one they did for me, and it came out okay. The lines in mine don't appear to be as fine as the ones in yours, though.

One thing - make sure you have good communication with Anvil going in - if they make a mistake in your order, even if it's their fault, they won't pay for any return shipping, nor will they pay for any extra FFL fees if you have to have a new receiver made up.

Scott: I think the advice you've gotten is good -- your smallest script would have been very hard to get right. The engravable area is not quite as big as it seems :) (It's like the optical illusion, which I can't find a good link to right now, with a box that's just slightly too large to be covered by a penny, even though it doesn't look like it's quite that large.)

However, I will give a small plug for AA: for me, they were (or, I should say, he -- Jon -- was) courteous, prompt, and helpful. My design came out just as I wanted it to, but because fine lines are tough, I didn't include any whatsoever, but rather the opposite -- bold, unambiguous lines instead. (And I just got the same design on my arm, but with needles instead of a laser ;))

I would (and might soon!) order from Anvil again.

Cheers,

timothy

p.s. All the engraving details aside, I like your design -- would make a good poster or something, too.

For only $5 more, Jon will do a test burn in an alluminum plate for you.

A big part of how well it burns is going to depend on what file format the graphic was created in.

Jon's system uses a (slightly) older version of Corel Draw. When other file formats are imported into the Corel software, strange things can happen.
