Anyone have any experience with the FEG .380s?

A LGS has a lot of Hungarian Police guns by me and they all look to be in good shape. PA-63s in 9x18 and .380 and some .380 walther looking guns. They are about $200-250 and my friends are interested in buying them and I might pick one up as well.

I shot a PA-63 and it was a bit heavy on recoil in 9x18 but was accurate and reliable in the 50 rounds I put through it. Do the rest of the guns in .380 run reliably? Any issues with certain profiles of ball ammo? Parts breakages?

I've the FEG PPK-like SMC .380, its a been a good shooter, finding spare mags is difficult. I thought it a good gun for the money, ~$180 back in the day when they were being imported, but this was before I discovered I really don't like DA/SA operation.

Well they can be had for like $200 now, I figure for my friends who aren't rolling in cash who need a good cheap CCW for working in chicago this would not be a bad deal, especially since I heard some bad stuff about Ruger LCPs

I have one in .22LR, the AP-22, imported by Interarms in around 1998. I am very impressed with its construction. Though it's all-steel, as opposed to the aluminum-framed SMC ones, it still turns me on to the .380 version. I'd probably pick one up if I came across it soon.

I apologize as I don't have any direct experience with the other versions you've mentioned, but the Wife bought a 'made in Hungary' FEG Mark 2 in .380 'several decades' ago.

Haven't used it much, but it is a solid all-steel pistol. It's 'like new with low miles', but never has had any FTF, FTE, FTM, breakages so far,,,,.

Wife and I have 9mm's. We don't carry 'on our person', but I can see where the Mark 2 would be easy enough to slip in a pocket,,,

If going .380, the Bersa Thunder may be a similar/slightly more expensive option. (~250~ new on Gun Broker) Mags are pricy, but available.

If looking for an inexpensive small carry, dare I suggest a Taurus Gen 2 PT111 in 9mm? They are going for low 2's new, 12 rounds. 9mm ammo is cheap/plentiful. Mags are readily available. Ever so slightly larger than the Mark 2, but certainly lighter. Not the same 'manufacturing finesse' that our FEG exhibits, but our 111 has been rock solid for close to 1000 rounds with all different types of ammo. The only reason the Wife doesn't use the 111 today is because she bought a PX4 compact,,, (It's an addiction!!)

Nice to have choices. Hope you find something you like!!!

I have the 32acp and the 380acp. I paid around $200 apiece for them and have been very pleased. Neither one has ever malfunctioned for me. I've also had an FEG HIgh Power clone for about 30 years, which has also been a good pistol for me. In my experience FEG made good solid weapons. Please forgive the poor-quality photos. They look much better in person.

I have an FEG PA63 and one of their .22lr pistols as well. I had to do a spring change to make the PA63 acceptable. Nice piece, accurate, goes bang every time. I think I paid $120 many moons ago for mine and around $175 for the .22lr.

I have a nice scar in my lower thigh from a titanium taurus .357 that I had serviced once already that I learned the hard way wasn't drop safe. Just never again with Taurus.

I already have a Walther compact 9mm, I was just looking for something cheap to keep in my car under the seat in a safe that I can slip into a pocket and if it gets stolen or disappears in an evidence locker I will not cry to badly.

Im looking pretty hard at either a FEG .380 or Bersa Thunder Concealed carry if i can get one used for cheap

I have two PA 63 in 9 MAK. I had an FFL back in the late 80's and early 90's when bought one for me for $120 I believe and one for a friend. I replaced springs in it to ease up the double action pull which had to be atleast 8 lbs and now it is much more reasonable to shoot. It has always been very accurate and completely reliable. My friend died last year and I bought his pistol from his estate as a keepsake of him. I need to replace the springs in it also and it is still quite stiff, he only fired about 50 rounds through it in all that time. As a CCW, you can do much better but as a truck gun or plinker they are a good gun for that purpose. The PA 63 in .380 is the same pistol and should be just as reliable as the MAK ones. Extra mags are available online but can be a bit pricey.

I kept my FEG .380 and sold a ppk/s because I found the FEG to be more reliable.

I carried that gun for years as a duty back up gun, and it worked every time I shot it at the range.

If they look to be in decent shape, they are good guns.

Lots of opinions about Taurus out there, both good and bad. Our 111 has certainly been flawless, especially considering what it is. (mass-produced inexpensive carry weapon). Have heard other Taurus models weren't so great. Can certainly understand your apprehension.

Go with a FEG or the Thunder. Nothing wrong with either of them!

(The Thunder double stack 380 fills my hand a whole lot better than the single stack. One of the 'more pleasant to hold' 380's I have fondled,,, Beretta Cheetah's are 'equally pleasant' in those same regards, but talk about sticker shock!!! YOWSA!!!!)

I have a PA-63 in .380. Of all the pistols I've shot it's the least pleasant.

Hideous DA, and the 'beaver tail' grip digs into your hand just above the thumb. Works, but I absolutely hate the darn thing.

I have a 2 tone Pa-63 in 380 that is also marked AP-9.

Watch out for the hideous DA trigger pull, galling of the alloy frame. Wolff springs help lighten the trigger pull. They are pretty accurate for what they are. Put a drip of bright orange paint on the front sight and shoot it like a shotgun.

I think I paid a hundred bucks for mine.

Multiple markings are common I suspect mine started as a military Pa-63 and was re-barreled and the other stamps added.

This little spring here is a bugger to find if you drop it. If you lose it, a spring from a PPK will work.

You will see wear here but it sort of reaches a limit and stops.
