FEG PA-63

I'm on the hunt for one now, have been for a bit. $200 is a good deal! Buy it. Not an amazing pistol, but another neat piece of Cold War history. Mags are a bit $$ so see if it has more than one.

$200 is a good deal for a PA63 now days. I have seen them average around $350 on Gun Broker.

Things to remember about the PA63
  • Only shoot 95Gr ammo in the PA63
    • Heavier grain bullets will increase recoil and wear on the aluminum frame.
  • NEVER USE +P AMMO - EVER.
  • It is a close copy of the Walther PPK
  • It has a heavy double action trigger pull
  • DO NOT use a high hold or you WILL get bit by the slide.
  • Recoil is pretty snappy since it is light weight.
  • The silver (sometimes purple *) colored frames are military issue while the black frames were made for civilian sales.
Besides all of the above, the PA63 is nice light and easy to conceal pistol. They have pretty good accuracy since the barrel is fixed to the frame. I haven't shot mine in years since cheap ammo has been unavailable for quite some time.

I bought my PA63 years ago for $125 after tax.

* on some of the military pistols, the clear protective coating will turn a brownish to purplish color.

Here is a photo of mine. The frame will look either brown or purple depending on the light.

I have a 32acp version and like it a lot. I bet it's spicy in 9x18! :)

$200 is a great deal.

I’m missing the cheap 9x18 ammo, that’s for sure.
Back during the first big ammo shortage, when 9mm and 380 were completely unavailable, I could get all the 9x18 I wanted, delivered to my door at cheap prices. For a while then, my CZ82 became my go to pistol.

I have one in.380. Dependable and accurate. No problems whatsoever. Good shooter. Bought it from a friend for $150 about 10 years ago. Best wishes!

My FEG is also a SMC-380, a pretty close copy of the PPK/s. I liked how the FEG felt and shot so much that I sent a Manhurin PPK/s down the road and kept the FEG.

Let us know what you think when you bring it home and get to shoot it. :)

Stay safe.

I was going to let another site member have it until I noticed they had 3 listed in stock. Called them just a half hour ago and they are completely sold out. Oh well, better luck next time.

I would jump on it if you see them again for $200 and in decent shape. Again the average around $350 o Gun Broker.

I've had 2 of them, still have the first one I bought. The double action trigger was HEAVY but I bought a pack of hammer springs with 3 different pound weights. It has been so long since I did that, I don't remember the weight the trigger came down to but it was much more manageable. Did some searching and I believe this is the spring kit I bought. The reduced pressure spring didn't cause any problems with light strikes.

This video shows how to replace the spring.

A friend of mine had one about 10 years ago, lot of fun to shoot in single action, and a "challenge" to shoot in double action due to trigger pull length and weight. He did carry it for a while due to size and ease of concealment, but eventually went back to his 1911 after he changed jobs. I don't remember what he did with it, probably sold / traded it away for something else.

I also have a Feg PA63. I too bought it for $125 back in the day. Every time I start drooling over Walther PPK/S pistols, I pull out the Feg and shoot it. It instantly reminds why I don't need to buy a Walther PPK.

It's snappy and basically unpleasant to shoot.

I have the CZ82 and the Polish P64 I bought quite a while ago, if memory serves I picked them both up for under $125 each. I actually like the 9x18 round even in the "snappy" P64.

FEG is a quality manufacturer.
The incredible DA pull is as bas as they say. Mine was 64lbs. Not exaggerating, actually measured.
SA was about 16lbs.
Recoil is significant, very harsh, sharp and snappy.

BUT a Wolf PPK hammer spring made the DA pull 16lbs, and the SA pull about 6.
Reloading with lead 95 grain bullets at 800fps makes this actually fun to shoot if you have the option.

If you do reload brass is easily made from 9mm luger brass, Missouri bullets sells a 93 grain bullet.

Looking at a FEG PA-63 (9x18) in very good condition for $200, think it would compliment my Radom P-64. Yes I know it's an aluminum alloy frame with a heavy DA trigger pull.

Anyone have any experience with the FEG?

Good price, assuming it's functional.

I remember the surplus vendors selling them for $99. Which was 20+ years ago. Internet gunboard hearsay was the recoil was pretty stout, and surplus Makarovs could be had for not much more. So, I never went the PA-63 route.

Internet gunboard hearsay was the recoil was pretty stout,

It is definitely not hearsay about the PA63 having more felt recoil than other pistols chambered in 9x18. I have shot enough PPK's in 380 along with Makarov's side by side with my PA63. There is definitely a difference. And the PPK has a bit of recoil even in 380 when compared to other 380 pistols due to the design. The PA63 is a very close copy of the PPK.

I’ve got a two-tone one like the OP although the OP’s is in better condition. Very accurate and reliable. Can’t ask for much more!

I too have a two-tone one like the OP although the OP's is in better condition. No functional issues and it seems to be quite accurate. I may have to try the Wolfe kit.

The "two tone" versions of the PA63 are military issued pistols. And the Hungarian military ordered their PA63 pistols without any finish on the frames hence the "two tone" look. This was done to save money. So if you run into a PA63 with a black frame, it was made for civilian sales.

Bought a FEG PMK, export 380 of the PA63 in March for 135. The grip frame finish was half gone, but seems to be a well made piece.

FEG paid royalties to Walther when they started selling the PA and AP pistols in Western Germany and the U.S. In Germany they were imported by Hebsacker and and sold under the HEGE brand. German importers also appropriately used the Attila model designation.
