FEG PA63

Hello fellow shooters! good to come aboard?

doing a shooter friend a favor and trying to locate a magazine or two for his FEG Mak 9MM. Is this an actual 9mm as us Americans know it? I am also led to believe it is not. I have a suspicion it may be a 9x18 but that is a hunch. It is stamped 9mm but that is all I can gather. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's 9x18.
I think makarov.com had mags at one time.

TimT, There are a few things you need to know. www.makarov.com has a forum and a info area at their site. Most of the PA63 questions are either at the makarov section or at the military pistol section. Under no circumstances should one shoot bullet weights greater than 95 grains through your pistol.Seems that PA63 and P64 owners are having pistols self destruct using heavier or over pressure loads. Seems as of two months ago the count on destructed pistols was at over 60 and still counting. Makarov pistols can take the increased pressure and weight. The smaller Makarov type pistols cannot.Stay with 95 grains or so. Just a safety tip.

The military version which has a bare aluminum frame is chambered for 9x18mm Makarov but the civilian version with a blued frame is chambered for 9x17mm (.380)!!!
Take off the slide and check the barrel to see if it is marked there. If it is only marked 9mm on the slide then I'd bet it's 9x17mm. If you aren't sure the take it to a gunsmith and have him check!

Apple A Day: The magazines I linked are the same as what came with my 9x18 PA63 from AimSurplus. They are blued, just like those pictured, and take 9x18 Makarov. Not sure where you derived that if they're blued, they're .380 only mags, but that appears to be incorrect. Everything I can find online (aside from your comment here) says that the magazines are compatible with both .380 ACP and 9x18.

Magazines are the same for both calibers.

Most .380 two-tone models are marked AP9 and Pa-63 and stamped '9mm short' on the slide and barrel housing. These are military guns re-barreled to 380.

Later .380 versions for commercial sale are blued slide and anodized blued frame and are not marked Pa-63.

There were 6 shot magazines made for the SMC version that will NOT fit.

This is a question, not a challenge. This is the first I've heard of this act. Granted, I don't frequent all the forums online, and I've noticed Makarov sites usually prefer the 'true' maks over the PA-63. I own a PA-63 and have put around 450 rounds of Jing An FMJ thru it, and carry Hornady XTP JHP for defense. I've always thought it to be a good little gun, feeds well (better than my brother's Bersa Thunder 380), and I've become used to the serious kick it delivers. Obviously I don't want to eat the slide or have the thing blow up in my hand. A couple things, please:
What's the weight of the Jing An rounds- there is nothing marked on the box or casing?
What ammo was causing the destruction?
What was the actual damage?

Mine is blued, yet chambered for makarov

Isudave, that's the first I've heard of that.

Like I said MOST .380 2 tones that I've seen, like this one, are marked in two places.

I can post a couple pics later of the gun. right now it's not near me, but to the best of my knowledge there are no markings except on the slide, which does say 9mm mak.
Purchased online, could very well have been blued by someone before I purchased it I suppose. I think it does make for a more attractive firearm being blued.

I just bought a brand new PA-63, It looks as though the slider is blued, do they come blued? Also ordered some flat grips for better concealment and a new recoil spring and hammer spring. I have two CZ 82 and love them but they are a bit too thick to conceal. I think I will be pleased with this gun and do expect a bit more bite from the recoil but that is the trade off when you go with a lighter gun. Regarding the photos above mine says Makarov on the chamber. Interesting since this is not a true Mak.
