Hi all, new member here and I just wanted to step in and say hello.

I'm not a new shooter but I am new to revolvers in general. I mostly shot 1911's since that's what I carried in the Navy so long and I've owned a few Glocks and other assorted pistols/rifles but never purchased a revolver. (Though I do own a VERY old Colt Snub that was my grandfathers. I will not shoot it. I believe was made around 1919.)

I'm not sure why I had an aversion to them honestly. I've always thought they were the most magnificent looking pieces of machinery. I've always liked the look and feel of the old Dragoon models but somehow, I never purchased one. That all changed this last weekend.

At a local show, I started thinking about buying a revolver. I knew the time had come. I wanted one. I had a S&W M&P9 but I really didn't enjoy shooting it. (Good gun, just not for me.) I was looking at a Service Six when a few tables over, I found the 10-8. I thought the weight was so good. It felt right in my hand. The guy smiled and told me the price which was 50 less than stickered. (I got it for $250) I bought it without batting an eye and went a few tables over and got some Hogue grips for it.

I went straight to the range as I had planned on shooting the M&P9 anyway. I put 50 thought the M&P and then 50 through the 10-8. Then I put the M&P up and put 100 more through the 10-8. JOY! Heaven! Bliss!

I'm sold. More revolvers are in my future. I just thought I'd come here and say hello and share my new found happiness. (Which I'm sure is old hat to all of you.)

Sorry for the crappy pic. I don't own a "good" camera.

Ignore the 9mm. That was the FIRST SA group I shot from the 10-8 at 10 yards. All the groups were like that with the DA opening up about 50%.

The model 10 is one revolver everyone should have at least one of in their collection. Yours is a fine example of the 10. I carried mine for 2 years doing security at a federal courthouse and never had any problems with it. You chose one of the best revolvers to start with. Great find.

yep, that's my favorite .38 right there (when it can't be a model-14...). Model 10, 4" heavy barrel. tho the 3" HB round-butt is pretty hot too...

The fixed sight K frames are the essence of what a revolver should be. Handy, simple, reliable, accurate, available and affordable.

K- frames

The S&W k frames are just right in so many ways. Big enough to get a good grip and sight radius, but small enough to be practical to carry. Heavy enough to absorb recoil, but not so heavy as to be a burden. And they're natural pointers. It's about the easiest handgun to shoot accurately that I've ever had much experience with.
