I am buying a pistol via the Internet from someone in another state. The seller is not an FFL. He asked me to have my FFL send a signed copy of the license to him. My FFL refused, saying that he could send an FFL only to another FFL. I know from prior research in primary sources that a non-FFL can send a firearm across state lines to an FFL. (I did so.) I have assured the seller that my dealer is an FFL and that this has been confirmed through perhaps 20 purchases of handguns that I have made with him, all of them involving background checks. Any comments on these issues? Private replies are welcome.

Thanks,

I'm in the process of purchasing a gun out of state and the seller is having the gun sent from their local FFL to my FFL. Althought the sellers FFL just asked that the paper work be sent to the seller and he just bring it in with the gun. Your FFL might just be a little more paranoid.

Like BlackSnowman said your FFL is paranoid (I've dealt with ore than one of those). Get yourself another one.

Ditto on what others have said. I have shipped guns to FFLs in other states. The FFL first mailed me an ink-signed copy of his license.

The shipper should always get a copy of the FFL because he can only ship the gun to the address on the license. That copy is his insurance against getting caught in an interstate gun sting. The receiving FFL should know and understand this, and have no problem with it.

In short, as others have said, go to another FFL.

I would just get another local FFL, people should tell dealers such as this to go shove it... Idiot dealers such as this often go around telling people this and that is "ILLEGAL" when they are talking out their damn a$$...

You could get the seller to use the ATF's EZ-Check online system, but to use it you need the FFLs license number to enter in to verify them (http://199.196.145.75/FFLeZCheck). Which if this jackass won't give out copies you won't be able to get his number. So just ditch this FFL and get a new one that actually knows what he is doing. There are enough stupid regulations and hoops to jump through when dealing with firearms, about the last thing we need is idiot dealers making up crap as they go along making the process even worse...

Which if this jackass won't give out copies you won't be able to get his number.
If you have to use this FFL, you can write down his license number straight from his license. He is required to have it displayed in his place of business.

Absolutely. Your FFL's license number is all that is needed, and can be entered here for verification - http://www.gunbroker.com/user/VerifyLicenseForm.asp

That verification is all that the seller needs to cover himself, all that the shipper - such as Fedex - needs to have, if they even ask.

That your chosen FFL refuses to assist you, or is paranoid to send copies of his license to people doing business with him is a Problem. And is reason enough to take your business to another FFL.
