Greetings,
I just picked up a FIE "Standard" .38Spl snubby from a local pawnshop. They had the gun labeled "BROKEN, FIRING PIN WON'T STAY IN". Turns out that they meant the cylinder pin, which is retained by a small button on the frame like on the H&R kit guns. The button was sticking a half-inch out of the frame with the spring exposed, so it was pretty obvious (to me) what the problem was.
I ended up getting it for around $35 OTD, and it took five seconds with a screwdriver to get the release screwed down and working. Works just fine right now, strongly reminiscent of my solid-frame H&R .22.
I "jimmarched" it, and there's a little side shake, and a small bit of endshake. More than on my S&Ws, but not a scary amount.
It's in great condition except that some doofus lost the front sight, but for this price I'm willing to glue a brass bead onto the barrel, which is only 1.5" anyway. Buying the OEM front sight and ramp from Bob's Gun Parts would cost me $16 after postage.
This seems to be the same thing as a German Regent/Arminius, but the post-68 US-made version. It's heavy as all-get-out, so I'm pretty sure it's not cast zinc.
The seller gave me seven days to look it over w/ option to return for full purchase price. Should I just glue on a brass bead for a sight, wrap it in an oily rag, and let it sit in a drawer until I have a use for it, or should I return it to the dealer before it detonates in my hand?
