Field and Stream Store opening up in Crescent Springs KY Nov 1

I got the ad in the mail today, I'd figure I'll just pass on the info. Might be yet another place to get firearms and ammo at. I wish they would open a Cabelas store in this area instead.

It will be located at 520 Clock Tower Way Buttermilk Towne Center Crescent Springs, KY 41017 (Kenton County). I am not connected to the store or company in any way. If this is inappropriate then please close the thread. I figure it would be of interest to people living in Kentucky and Cincinnati OH.

Field and Stream is a subsidiary of Dicks.

No way in hell I would give them any business after the way Dicks treated the firearms community last year.

Unlike what the address initially led me to believe, it's off the Crescent Springs exit. It's well south of the Clock Tower.

Did that used to be a grocery store?

Used to be a furniture store and was vacant for quite some time. Turns out that F & S is a really nice store - spent an hour there tonight window shopping and picked up some .22 ammo. Great alternative to Bass Pro with a much better gun section than Dicks or Bass Pro. I haven't seen that nice a selection since All About Sports was in town.

I won't be shopping at Son of Dick's

Visiting my daughter in Cinn., so went there today, wasn't impressed. For the size of the operation, it seemed I can get better prices in a local gun store that discounts. Their gun prices seemed like MSRP.

I bought the limit, two 333 rd .22 bulk packs @ $18 per. Their mailed brochure said "buy all the ammo you need", I guess they figure I only need what their limit is. The employee said there would be better prices tomorrow on their official "grand opening". May return to buy more .22.

They also had Remington 9mm for $15/box, but I've given up on Remington ammo. PMC for the same price seemed a better deal.

I found their clothing prices high too, again, seemed like MSRP, like $48 for a thin flannel shirt. Better prices at BassPro. The brochure has a coupon for $10 off a $25 sale, but it doesn't include ammo, guns, or a long list of brands. Seemed kind of worthless.

I guess every employee has been trained to ask "how are you today?", but it got tiresome after the first 15 times or so.

I'll grab the ammo at their opening sale prices, but it doesn't look like a store I'll frequent.

What did Dick's do?
Dick's pulled all of their AR's and other evil black rifles from their shelves, did not honor sale prices as advertised and cancelled/did not fulfill existing orders for AR's and other modern sporting rifles.

I guess most of you know that clothing and other odds and ends at these kinds of stores, iincluding Bass Pro is almost always retail. It doesn't work for JC Penney, but it seems to work for Cabelas, Bass Pro, Gander Mt, and Dicks.

Dick's Sporting Goods won't get any of my business because they are just an awful company. They caved in to the anti gun people when they did away with the AR offerings and then backtracked. They took preorders for Troy rifles from tons of people, kept their money for over a month and then cancelled all the orders due to politics. Troy got screwed over and so did anyone else wanting an AR. I've dealt with Dick's in the past and they just come across as a scummy company anyways. Yuck.

Went back for the Fri. grand opening, packed. Got there at 10:20, had to wait on line for about 20 minutes to get in.

Went right to the ammo section and picked up the limit, two 1400 round buckets of .22's, for $60 each. That works out to $21 + change per 500 rounds, pretty good in the current climate. It was Remington, definitely not my first choice, but as they say, the price was right.

I'd already seen what they had the day before when I picked up two 333 rd packs of .22's, so that was it for me.

Between the 2 visits a total of almost 3500 rounds, I'm good for a while.

What's funny is I went into a near by Dick's, they had only shot shell .22, but this store was loaded, and they kept bringing out pallets of more, in several brands. The grand opening is a three day event, and I don't doubt they have enough to cover the three days.

I'm thinking they've been hoarding to cover this event, wonder for how long?

I saw Field and Stream opening on the news yesterday. I don't go to N. Kentucky much to shop, especially since I can't get handguns there, but I'm sure i'll visit eventually. I'd expect it to be much like Bass Pro.

I don't understand all the Dick's haters. It isn't like Dick's is a gun shop. It is a clothes shop and golf shop that just happens to sell long guns. Kind of like Kmart when I was a kid. You could buy guns and ammo there, but don't expect much selection. That wasn't their specialty. I've picked up some ammo and cleaning supplies there over the years if I was already at Dick's for another reason, but if I really want to buy a gun, I'll go to a gun shop. At least here in greater Cincinnati there are tons of options for real gun shops. No reason to expect more out of Dick's; you will just be disappointed.

Jeff H.....I don't understand all the Dick's haters.

Really?:scrutiny:
-Pulled all of their AR's and other evil black rifles from their shelves.
-Did not honor sale prices as advertised.
-Cancelled/did not fulfill existing customer orders for AR's and other modern sporting rifles.
-Reneged on orders from AR manufacturers. (orderd firearms then cancelled/returned those guns)

Frankly, I wish every manufacturer and distributor would blacklist Dicks. It would send a pretty good message to fair weather retailers.

It isn't like Dick's is a gun shop.
Just like WalMart (the largest retailer of firearms in the USA) isn't a gun shop?;)

Check out Kyles Gun Shop, that's my favorite, just a small shop, but in the process of an expansion. I've found his prices to be about the best in town. Also there is Point Blank Range. They have two locations, very nice facilities. When they first opened, I thought their prices were a little high. I was in last week and found their prices to have come down some. On the west side of town is Afield Sporting Goods, its an old timey cluttered old sporting goods store. It's right down the street from Point Blank's new west side location.

Do you happen to know any good shops on the east side of town? I just moved to the area recently.

Country Attic, a small LGS in Lebanon, nice guys, cant comment on prices didnt buy
3995 Hudson Avenue, South Lebanon, Ohio 45065
Targetworld, tri county area, big place, alot of modern stuff and an indoor range, not my cup of tea but its popular

I'll second Afield in Miamitown (west side) Nice people, old school feel

I love Shooter's Supply in Loveland, Ohio. They have great prices and a decent selection, but they will order anything you want. Every gun I looked at was at least $100 less than at Targetworld.

Thanks to all for posting the local shops! Kyles is the closest, I'll take a look.

Edit: Took a ride over there, they apparently have just expanded, and the shelves were pretty bare, although they do have a lot of guns.

Their slant is towards tactical, which I'm not a big fan of.

Did manage to score a nice zippered and padded pistol bag, which is large enough for a pistol with a red dot, Glock branded, for $10.

In addition to all the other stores people have posted, There is also One shot in Newtown or Hunter's Den on Ohio Pike.

There's a pretty new gun shop in Florence, KY just off Turfway Rd called Triggers. Pretty small shop, but very friendly and helpful folks to deal with. Bought a Ruger 10/22 for my wife and was about to buy a red dot for it while at the counter, but the salesman told me to hold on a minute and quickly ran out behind the store to his car. When he came back, he handed me a brand new, out of box red dot he just opened up earlier that day and he gave it to us for free.

I'll be going back there many times again just because of how nice they were, and their gun prices were pretty good too. They have another store in Alexandria, but I haven't been to that one yet.

Meh...not impressed.
I'll repeat what I said before. Dick's isn't a gun shop. They just happen to sell firearms like Kmart used to and Walmart still does. If Buds or CTD behaved like this, they would be off my list for sure..........Oh wait. That IS why CTD is on my do not order list. I unsubscribed shortly after their $100 AR mags were advertised and they pulled ARs off the shelves .

That's a strange outlook Jeff. That's like saying it's ok to be a jerk as long as you were born a jerk or it's acceptable for a politician to be corrupt because after all, they're a politician. It's not too much to ask that a company take care of their customers.

So if you ordered a canoe from them and they kept your money for a month or two.. then one day they call you up and say "we have your canoe but we're not going to sell it to you. We just don't really like canoes much anymore".....that's perfectly acceptable because they're not a canoe store? No one is saying they should fly a Gadsden out front and give away free NRA memberships, I'm just saying that customer service should trump politics. There's no excusing that .

So...........because Dicks also sells shoelaces, Nikes and camping apparal they get a pass? The OP was about a Dicks subsidiary......Field and Stream.......who DO market themselves as a hunting specialty store.

If their business practices don't bother you, then by all means keep them in business.

Oh wait. That IS why CTD is on my do not order list. I unsubscribed shortly after their $100 AR mags were advertised and they pulled ARs off the shelves .
Fail.
CTD NEVER pulled AR's off their shelves. What did happen is their online ordering system was overwhelmed. They temporarily stopped online ordering until they could install new software that showed real time inventory.
And CTD was not the only firearms retailer who had this problem..........yet the internet was quickly filled by thousands of posts by the uninformed who didn't know jack squat about their reason for suspending online ordering.

And before you get all wound up on $100 AR mags, ask yourself how much profit a company makes from an item that does not sell.;)

CTD is horrible for a totally different reason. They didn't do anything anti-gun like Dick's but they were selling pmags for $100 each when it was tough to find them. I beleive in capitalism and they have every right to do that. I'm not against making money and certainly supply and demand plays a role in pricing...but when I can find one for $13 and they want $100.....I'm not going to even bother checking a price at that place again. I'm definitely not alone on that one either.
