I built my CA-compliant AR using a Fightlite lower and a free-float upper built to order by Davidson Defense. The lower came with a pepper laminate stock (probably Boyds) that I had difficulty matching to a free-float forend option, so I started with a Choate buttstock for a Reminton 1100 shotgun, which fits the Fightlite lower with minimal fuss.
I kept looking for a suitable match for the laminate stock though, and this week I came across some G10 gray railcovers from VZ Grips.
Not a perfect match, but I think the ensemble looks a tiny bit less blackrifle-y this way.
The texture on these covers was so sharp that I ran a few passes with fine file across them, toning the grip down from painful to merely aggressive. I kinda like the combination now.
(If you're wondering about the mag weirdness in both photos, there was a CMMG .22 Rimfire adapter installed, preventing the PMAG from full insertion. The mag in the top photo is a Black Dog Machine .22 10-shooter with steel lips.)
