Looks good Tex. Everyone will have very different ideas of a well built/accessorized AR. Yours sounds good, 1 in 8 twist is smart if you care to go a little farther out (stabilizing heavy bullets). The only thing I could pick on is the Thermold mags. While you can't beat the price, in my case I had to to a little trimming to get flawless feeding. You may want to upgrade there and get some c-products or other type of metal mags. The polymer just feels cheap to me.

Sounds sweet! Be sure and post some pics when you are done.

thanks guys...o and i do have a few c products mags,,,2 30 rounders...i will have to test out my thermold mags...they had good reviews about feeding and fit...they wer law enforcement surplus mags that i gave less than 5 bucks a piece for including shipping..they are new and where never used...so if they dont end up working i aint out much...thanks for the heads up

and yes i plan on seeing what my capabilities are,,when i get use to the rifle and how the scope works i plan on seeing if i can make a half mile shot using about a 69 grain tipped bullet with boattail ..so we will se

I'm no expert by any means but it's my understanding that the wylde chamber is for the longest(heaviest) bullets. I'm curious how a round like a 50 or 55 grain vmax or or varmint grenade would shoot since it would be farther off the lands. Let us know how she shoots. Post some pics.

Wondering what kind of groups you'll get with that rifle.

My $600 Rem 700 .223 heavy barrel will shoot sub 0.5" groups all day long. Just sayin ;)

Wylde chambers are a hybrid of 556 and 223. Not as loose as 556 but not as tight as 223. Bullet weight is more dependent upon barrel twist rate.

RRA guarantees 3/4 inch moa or better with match ammo(i will be shooting match grade custom loads that i load myself)... i have seen videos online of this gun barrel shooting .221 3 shot group...and as bad as .9( 10 shot group with remington umc) I have no doubts that your remi shoot sub .5 moa ...but i wasnt looking for a standard rifle...the 1500 price tag includes all the accessories and 400 dollar optics so the basic rifle of this model runs about $850...my dad shoots 69g sierra match kings out of his Bushmaster civiallian marksman match AR and has sub .5 groups at 100 and has shot it with accuracy out to 400(it probably shoots better than he can on account he has trouble seeing the cross hair because he ordered it to fine and his vision aint the best..lol

how bout that!!!

its gonna be silly accurate without a doubt if you do your part.

you could eek a bit more accuracy out of a shilen, sabre, or satern barrel, or some other pure target barrel, but that is going to be a very accurate setup for sure. i think you will like it very much.

I have a 20 SS barreled RRA Stanadard A4 (has an A2 flash suppressor) with free float tube, from before they started cryo'ing the barrels. It is a 3/4 MOA gun with match ammo, occaisionally going down into the 1/2-5/8 range. It shoots everything pretty darn well... even plinking ammo.

Drop the Mako magwell grip thing. It's pretty useless.

You could save some real weight by using a lighter profile barrel. You won't be giving up any accuracy either. You also don't need the free float quad rails. They are heavier and more expensive than tubes without rails and are fat, especially with rail covers. A carbon fiber free float tube won't heat up from firing or get real cold when it's freezing outside like aluminum does. If that lightweight gas block is made from aluminum, they suffer from gas erosion pretty quickly. If you're going to be using a scope all the time, the rail on the gas block is pretty much as waste

I really enjoyed building my precision AR and really like how it shoots. The 1:8 twist barrel I used shoots really well with 75 gr bullets. Let us know how yours turns out!

Weight is not an issue..I wasn't going for light...I'm 6'4" 280 pound man....I want a rifle that would shoot lights out and have a tacticle sniper look to it...the magwell grip I like because when I'm laying prone that's where I like to put my forehand...the quadrail will allow me to mount my coyote hunting accessories very easily and I have huge hands so the fat quad rail will be fine...appreciate your input because my next AR will be a lightweight one wont have all the bells and whistles

Oh...and the barrel is 1 pound lighter than standard match as barrels...idk how itcompares to chromoly as far as weight

Hey wolf do those 75g fit ur mags....I know 72g amax wount due to the polymer tip

Also what brand and are they fmj or HP....I willbe trying countless powder bullet combinations insearch of the best possible combo

I bought a box of Bitterroot Valley, Hornaday TAP and Black Hills. None are polymer tipped and they are made to work fine from the mag. I only shot a few for preliminary testing, however. Longer bullets will work in the mag, but you have to seat them deeper and make adjustments to your loads accordingly.

I get being a big guy. I'm not quite so large as I'm 6"1" but I have longer than normal arms. You can get round tube forearms that are not skinny and reduce weight. Adding weight in the handguards does nothing to improve the performance of the rifle. The only place weight helps is in the barrel where it helps control barrel vibration and handles heat better. If you need to add stuff to the handguard, short rail sections can be used. Or find other ways of attachment. Here is how I attached a sling mount to the FF tube of my precision AR. I flush mounted a QD cup

and it's simple to add a sling

No rails needed. My FF tube is made of carbon glass and does not heat up from use like aluminum rails do. It's from PRI, well made, fits my hand and I would suggest it to you but it cost a little over $300

yea i know that but even seating the bullet to the max limit wouldnt allow the Amax to fit...we didnt like the way they shot anyhow...that is a sweet rifle my friend...my next one will be similar but in OD green and the magpul ACS stock...love the handgaurd..will probably go with something similar on my next one after i build a pink one...which will be as light as i can get it...but as far as this build i wanted the rails..wasnt about the attachments for the most part as i know of adding rails to any forend...just like the look of the rails on a big rifle...alot of the things on my rifle wernt really the fact i thought i needed it more the fact i wanted it...its a personal opinion thing...i love your rifle though...if i had another 2 grand to spend on a gun i would probably copy it but with a chromoly barrel and a acog scope...What scope do you have mounted on yours..looks like a monarch but hell they all look about the same..thanks for the pick..you did a great job on the build in my opinion

Thanks for the good words about my rifle! It was fun to build and has been even more so to shoot. That what it's all about, the shooting.

You're right- in the end you are the one who has to be happy with your rifle. Rails won't keep it from shooting well and on some rifles, they do look pretty cool!

The scope is a Leupold M1 10 Mark 4 with mildot reticle that's been sitting on my M40 "clone" until I robbed it for this AR. I really like this scope though I wish I had gotten the variable model instead. I've been trying to save up for another scope but I've been coming across deals on Fal parts that have been too tempting to ignore. PSA having a sale on an H2 Aimpoint didn't help my budget any either!

Then there was that new light mount from Mossie Tactical. Then I thought "What good is a light mount without a light?"

Don't even bring up that full sized Cherokee I've been eyeing.....

Hunter if these thermolds don't work well I will prolly go magpul...I love magpul...wolf if your looking for a high powerscope I just bought a Weaver 6-24x50 with lighted dot on cross hair and side focus for 370 shipped from natchez usually run 500 plus...I hear its a great scope I should have it monday..and I have the same problem with buying stuff..my next purchase is a kill light xlr 250 pro for coyote hunting

Some find the Magpul 20 round mags sometimes do not lock back on the last round. It's generally recommended to go with 20 round GI mags

Tex,

That sounds like a great one. I'm going to give the custom route a try myself pretty soon and looking forward to it. Its going to be pretty piecemeal since I can't afford all of the components at once, but should be a nice project over a year's time.

I envy you on the anticipated delivery and try out. Have a lot of fun!

420 ..I am getting so anxious ..damn rra and there 60 day lead time...word of advice buy a complete upper and save the money on tools..as far as the lower I used Allen wrenches for punches, channel locks for lock nut(cover in electrical tape so I don't chew it up, needle nose pliers, and a small hammer with tape on the head..you can go to itstactical.com. ..the have a step by step video set on building from the ground up...good luck...u can set a budget but if your like me I double my budget at 1500

I like the tan and black combination. Much more appealing than just all black.

What do ya think of mine?
standard.gif
It now wears standard A2 stock & a Tapco SAW grip as well as a Precision Reflex folding front sight gas block but the basic rifle is the same.
I normally use camo cloth wrap adapted to the season when hunting as well as a Versa-Pod Bi-pod.

I call this rifle my "FUDD-15" ;)

pretty good looking rifle... defiantly different ..i like the wood stock/aluminum tube combo..i can say i have yet to see one with that combo
