Finally accepted my .32 H&R Magnum is actually a .32 S&W Long.

I have shot great groups with Georgia Arms 100 grain XTP bullets in .32 H&R Magnum out of my Taurus 731 UL, but something has changed on their end this year, and the gun will not group.

So I have tried Hornady Critical Defense .32 H&R Magnum. Nope. Doesn't group.
I also in between picked up some .32 S&W Long 98 grain half jacket HP from Magtech. The gun shoots those in less than 3" groups at 15 yards.

I guess I am going to carry those from now on, or a 98 grain LSWC as I have not been able to locate any good .32 H&R Magnum ammo for my revolver.

I am okay with that. I know I am loosing a lot in the power factor, but a good hit is a good hit. Pointing an hoping is just not going to cut it. I should start loading .32 H&R Magnum, I guess.

Would you accept the fact that your Magnum revolver shoots Longs/Specials better than a Magnum cartridge?

Sure, for many reasons, not the least being chamber throat and barrel groove dimensions.

Absolutely! You may find the "exactly right" load for your revolver.

Go in search of the perfect (for your gun) load.

I've yet to encounter a magnum revolver for which there wasn't at least ONE magnum-level load that shot as well as or better than the "special"-type rounds. I don't know what your preferences are, in terms of gunpowder, but I would think that Unique or Herco would work very well in the .32 H&R. Perhaps AA#5 or AA#7 would be alternatives? I'm betting that loads which give you a full case with a cast bullet will deliver your best accuracy. Just a surmise on my part.

did you shoot longs out of the gun before you started to have the problem grouping? if so you could have buildup in the barrel from the longs that is affecting the longer magnums accuracy.

Load your own. I found the .32 Mag somewhat picky.

My Taurus shoots the XTP really well. I also load WCs at light levels in .32 Mag brass and they shoot great.

@ HeyJoe - No, the gun was completely clean.

@ Walkalong - Mine did too. It would shoot the Georgia Arms 100 grain XTP great for the lot I bought about 3 years ago. I shot them up though. I bought another lot from GA Arms, this year, and they shoot horrible.
Tried the only SD load I could find, that being Critical Defense, and they shoot horrible.

I'll load up some. I do hand load, but I don't have dies for the .32 H&R Mag any longer. I couldn't find a decent load using Unique or AA #5. I have some other good pistol powders that should work.

For now, I will just keep the .32 S&W Longs from Magtech loaded up until I can find the time and money to start reloading .32 H&R Mags again.
