A while back I posted some pictures of my first meager attempt at knife building. Shortly after finishing that one I got busy and cut out 6-more blades of various shapes. Then they sat while life got in the way of finishing them.

I finally got back to them and managed to finish two of them. Another broke when I tried to straighten it after heat treat - oops. Anyway, here are some pictures of knives #2 and #3. Thanks for looking.

#2 - this one went to my dad. Blade is O1, handle is Lacewood with brass pins and lanyard tube. Pin stock came from a broken cleaning rod from on old gun cleaning kit.

#3 - still have this one. Blade is O1, handle is green micarta (courtesy of a real knife maker I met recently) with brass pins and lanyard tube. Pin stock is from a brass brazing rod.

Thank you for the compliments. I really appreciate your input.

A little more information on the blades. I was lucky enough to get some scrap O1 from a local machine shop. Being scrap pieces, I was stuck with a set size and I had to try to get as much blade out of the pieces as I could. I traced the scrap pieces several times on some paper and started sketching inside the lines. Then I picked the ones I liked the most. Basically the size and shape of the scrap pieces I started with dictated (to some extent) what I could do with them.

Thanks again, for looking.

Beautiful work! You could have said they were your 202nd and 203rd made, and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. You sure have a talent for it.

#2 and #3? Wow!!! Those are great, wonderful craftsmanship and design on the 0-1 and lacewood knife. What are you using to grind on?

Beautiful work, Fergy! I really like the #3; I'm partial to short blades for most of what I need a knife for.

Thanks again everyone.

Valkman and Black Toe Knives- Thank you both. Compliments from real knife makers, that is humbling.

Jlaw, right now it is a very cheesy set up. I bought an old Delta Rockwell 1 X 42 belt grinder at an auction. Runs too fast according to real knife makers, but if you take your time it will work. I roughed #2 out with it then finished with files and sandpaper by hand. #3, I started to do by hand, then went back to the grinder with a wore out 400 grit belt. The handles / scales were done with files and paper. The brass piece on #2 was soldered in place before the wood was fit.

Man, those look awesome. Your grinds are perfect. I am not a big fan of the handle shape of #2 (preference) but the grinds seriously appear flawless on both. And I love the green micarta.

"old Delta Rockwell 1 X 42 belt grinder"

Well done. I'm still grinding on a 4 X 36 machine with lots of filing and LOTS of sandpaper, so I know your pain.

All said and done, I'd say you're well on your way, I'm still drooling over #2. That is a knife I would pay real money for.

i´m not posting my #1 and #2 now.

Seriously, u have talent. Excellent finish.

That is some seriously fine workmanship.

Makes me proud we pm'ed way back when you first got interested.

Keep it up, and keep sharing. You are talented

Very nice work!
If I could make something half as decent I wouldn't need to buy knives anymore.
