Finally found a Marlin Camp 45

If you use Wolff's higher spring-rate spring, the original buffer is fine (Marlin used the same spring and buffer for both the 9 & .45 - the latter needs a stiffer spring!). Check with Marlin - or Brownell's for availability of that buffer, if your's is broken.

Dave didn't know that. :)

Always happy to refer some business to a fellow THRer. I ordered one of their buffers, myself. I figured it would be good to have a spare.

Dave didn't know that.

Neither did I, but that's where my buffer came from, and I'll vouch for the quality of the part and the great customer service.

Besides, it's cool to do business with the home team.

Think I will order a black jack buffer and a 16 lb spring for my camp 9...

I love that gun, hella accurate. Haven't shot anything but WWB value packs and hollow points through it yet.

I think it would be pretty hot with some +p ammo...

During my Camp Carbine Period, I did a lot of searching, as to possible improvements for the C9 & C45. The first one I bought was an old stock new C9, and I fitted a Williams FP peep receiver and Firesight front sight, after trying a handgun, rifle, and red dot scope. I had two new S&W 59-type 30rd mags, bought for $35/pr. They worked flawlessly... and, they were as boring to unload (shoot) as they were to load. A real 'Ho hum!' after the first few rounds. With a diet solely of Blazer 115gr Al-cased FMJ ($3.99-$4.99/50 locally then - cheaper now!). I could put them in a chest sized bg silhouette at 75 & 100 yd quite reliably. But... I wanted a C.45... so I sold the C9.

After a brief Kahr/Auto Ordnance 1927A1 Thompson ownership, a well meant birthday gift from my wife, I eventually found a 'new' C.45 in a local dealer's stash. My wife shocked me one afternoon with it... I was happy... so happy, I bought four SS 8rd mags for it (I haven't had my own 1911 yet... other than the antiques I carried decades ago in the USN.). It was fun... I only used the front fiber optic sight, and had good luck with only my reloads... and they weren't up to standard ball ammo levels, but plenty for me. While my 185gr HBRN and 230gr FMJ would make 700-760 fps from my 4" 625, they'd hit 900-990 fps from the C.45. I used mixed old brass - the C.45 wasn't particular - and, like the C9, would launch them into the next county anyway... both the C9 and C.45 used 'throw-away' cases!

In my talks with Marlin and Wolff, I found that they used the same buffer and spring in each model - and the bolt, etc, mass was essentially the same. Recoil energy of .45 ACP ball ammo is much higher than the 9mm, and the rebound nearly puts the bolt into the buffer with ball ammo. Any hotter stock ACP ammo, much less +P or .45 Super, and it will bottom out - hard! And, if you leave the screws holding the action in the stock loose, expect a cracked stock - eventually, even with standard ACP's. Guess what? Marlin ran out of stocks some time back. The cure is simple... the 16# spring and normal ammo. If you want a 'killer' .45 carbine, there is always that Puma M1892... in .454 Casull!

Of course, the real killer for me was the same in both models - the cheesy construction. Plastic mag and trigger shroud - riveted punched metal receiver. Nice stock, however. As they have a very finite lifespan, I elected to let someone else carry my C.45 to it's demise. I'd pay more for a properly made one... okay, not another machined nightmare (That Thompson...)... something in between.
