First off, the wife has little or no interest in my gun hobby. She has agreed to learn how to use one "just in case...". The big problem I faced was finding one she could operate easily, with minimal practice. Racking the slide was the big hurdle, with a double action trigger a close second. I took her through the thirty or so pistols I own, watching her struggle with every one, and was about to give in and get a revolver (I dislike revolvers).
A few days ago I found a Daewoo DH40 on consignment, and was amazed at the ease of the slide operation. It also has a very smooth and light trigger, especially in the quick action mode, but even the double action is quite light, though long.
Her birthday is approaching, so I presented it to her as an early gift. She started off very slightly interested, but after I demonstrated the operation and she tried it herself, she began to smile. Soon she was laughing and joking about it and actually seemed pleased. Hopefully we'll get in a range visit today and put it to the real test. I think I found a winner.
