First off, the wife has little or no interest in my gun hobby. She has agreed to learn how to use one "just in case...". The big problem I faced was finding one she could operate easily, with minimal practice. Racking the slide was the big hurdle, with a double action trigger a close second. I took her through the thirty or so pistols I own, watching her struggle with every one, and was about to give in and get a revolver (I dislike revolvers).

A few days ago I found a Daewoo DH40 on consignment, and was amazed at the ease of the slide operation. It also has a very smooth and light trigger, especially in the quick action mode, but even the double action is quite light, though long.

Her birthday is approaching, so I presented it to her as an early gift. She started off very slightly interested, but after I demonstrated the operation and she tried it herself, she began to smile. Soon she was laughing and joking about it and actually seemed pleased. :D Hopefully we'll get in a range visit today and put it to the real test. I think I found a winner.

432pd & g27

My wife has trouble with her hands because of arthritis. We looked at a dozen or more weapons that her hand could hold and hold onto while firing. With the help of a very kind range instructor, she chose a Smith & Wesson 423 PD (32 H&R Mag). This is a great weapon that has good defensive possibilities. I am going to take her to the range to try my G27 as a second .

That's quite a leap from a .32 H&R. :what: It would probably cause far more problems than it would solve.

Were it me, I'd buy more .32 ammo and get her real comfortable with the 432 PD.

Maybe pick up an SP-101 in .327, which can also shoot the .32 H&R.

My wife loves my Beretta 92FS - full size metal gun makes shooting the 9mm like a .22. Oil her up (the gun) and the action is smooth and easy enough for her to rack and manipulate.
