Here it goes! I picked up this fancy Beretta 90-Two F .40S&W this morning! Me so happy! My first handgun! I'm finally free of socialist NYC! I'm in freedom land Florida!

So, about the cleaning... since I did it for the first time in my life today... I cleaned the damn thing for an hour :what: and I'm not sure if it's clean enough :uhoh:

I followed the instructions, I field stripped it, cleaned the barrel with bronze brush and gun cleaning agent spray thing, then soft brush and a drop of oil, then cotton swab through it, finally barrel "snake". Came out a bit dirty, even after 5 minutes of cleaning ( I shot 450 rounds today ). Then, sprayed the slide and parts of frame with gun cleaning spray, waited 5 minutes, sprayed again and cleaned with soft brush. Repeated twice. I can still see few spots I couldn't reach with the tools I have: tiny little groves in the slide etc. I did the best I could.

Then the part that made me wonder... oil :uhoh:

I put total of maybe 6 to 8 tiny drops of oil in the gun. On barrel slide, triger, triger pull mechanism thing, mag release button, in front of trigger, and those two funny metal parts that stick out after field strip in front of the hammer.

SO how much oil is too much??? I can see it dripping out along slide etc. Again, I put only about 7 tiny drops total. IS that OK???

Too much oil? Nothing to worry about. Always have a little of that when I clean my gun. Lay it on a rag so that it doesn't stain anything and let it sit awhile.

Nice gun. Welcome to the free world, komrade.

Congrats, and welcome to America!

The sig armorer's manual gives good advice.

A gun should be *visibly* lubricated, but the oil should not be so much as to be seen to flow with gravity.

Guns don't come _completely_ clean, and they don't need to be. You only need to detail strip to components every so often.

My advice on barrel cleaning is a dozen or so passes with a wet bore brush, followed by alternating wet and dry patches until the dry patch comes out pretty clean, but needn't be immaculate. The 2nd to final pass is an oiled patch, followed by one last dry patch to remove excess oil.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Nice first choice you can't go wrong with Beretta.
I like the dust cover over the picatinny rail. How do you like the Superluminova sights?

450 rounds your first day with it? Sounds like fun! Welcome to the club!

Yeah, just wipe it clean. You don't want it dripping with oil, obviously. I usually wet my brush with breakfree CLP, scrub it down, wipe it off and then apply a nice coat of oil/lube where parts move or metal contacts metal. Make sure the slide rails are oiled, maybe a bit on the barrel... you're set. That pistol is hard to mess up.

very nice gun!!

I am too are one of the people who got out of NYC. Its like a jail cell there...:D

All my Beretta manuals have lubrication recommendations...as well as other useful information. ;)

Do as I do with my Beretta 92:

after the gun is stripped:

1) get can of Gun Scrubber and box of Q-tips.
2) spray cotton part of q-tip.
3) clean every nook and cranny until q-tips stay white
4) use cheap walmart cleaning rod and cut up t-shirt to clean barrel.
5) instead of spraying Rem-oil into the gun, right from the can, I spray it on Q-tips and apply to only the areas I want to lube. Namely, the slide.

At first, I was spraying the gun like a maniac, then I realized that it was better if I selectively cleaned the gun- that way the gun wouldn't be dripping oil and grease all over my clothes.

if you take nothing away from this, just remember... Q-Tips

Nice gun, I'm jealous ! :fire: Tell me though, did the salesman worry at all when you were jumping up and down in the store screaming "Ive got a gun !! I've got a gun !! i can't believe they gave me gun !!!" .. hehehe

In my experience working with at least a thousand Berettas, they don't mind being dirty, but they absolutely HATE being dry. Easily one of the most forgiving handguns around as far as limp-wristing is concerned. When you can feel the slide dragging and it starts to sound like the spring on a screen door when it cycles, you need to lubricate it.

Please don't go running aroung in the real world screaming "I have a gun! I have a gun!" with a big grin plastered on your face.

People might take it the wrong way.:p

Congrats, Polack. I've gotten a (good) kick out of following your migration. Glad you made it down here - I hate this state, but it IS great for gun ownership.

Enjoy your new baby. :D

Congrats on a Really nice looking Pistol. :)

Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun with it too.

Enjoy your New Found Freedom!!! :D
