I posted my good fortune in another thread over on the semi auto sub.
I figured this one belonged here.
So yesterday, I went to pick up an LCP max at one of my 2 favorite LGS. They didn't have any spare mags for it on the shelf, but I knew that my other favorite LGS had a couple of 12 rd mags, so I went there to get them.
Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw this. 20220611_144206.jpg
1980 vintage NM Blackhawk in .357.
I have been looking for a 44 Spc, or 45 Colt Blackhawk for a long time.
357 was not exactly what I wanted, but I prefer the 4.6 inch barrel, and I do reload for 38/357, so I figured why not!
$450 OTD. I'm feeling pretty lucky.
2 new Rugers in 1 day. :)

Should be able to shoot it tomorrow. It shows a turn line on the cylinder, but no headstamp marks on the recoil shield so if it was fired alot I'm thinking it was just factory loads or mild handloads. Doesn't even show any holster wear, but I can see that someone has filed the front site, which doesn't makes sense as the damn rear site is obviously adjustable. Hopefully still within adjustment range now.

Well Done! Nice Ruger!

Great find.

My guess is shooting LIGHT loads, filed front sight. Why not adj rear sight? Who knows.

My cowboy loads shoot low, but I don't caré, I compensate.

Short barrel .45C are scarcer than hens teeth. Been looking for 4 years. Hopefully, one day.

Enjoy that fine shooter

Welcome to the Club!

My ticket for admission is a 40 some year old NM, 45 Colt 4.625 barrel, high polished stainless with a tuned action and faux ivory grips. My Grandpa bought it many moons ago at Shoemake's Trading Post in the Ozarks.

Great revolver at a great price. Welcome to the Blackhawk club.

Warning: Blackhawk (and Ruger single actions in general) seem to reproduce while you aren't looking. 40 years ago I started with a Single-Six and a 45 Colt/45 ACP convertible. I should count how many are in the safe now but the total would be embarrassing. All of them were used when I bought them. By the way, I have a 357 Blackhawk from the first year of manufacture. (I'm the third owner.) The thing is almost as old as I am. :what: It has seen plenty of use, and it still locks up like a bank vault.

Very nice! My first Blackhawk was a .357 of the same barrel length from about 1974.

I recently lucked into a .45 Colt of the same barrel length from about 1978.

Congratulations and welcome to the club!

nice blackhawk! these things are built like brick outhouses, making used ones good bets. there is probably no better, lower 48, field and forest, centerfire revolver than a ruger blackhawk 357/38, except one that comes with a 9mm cylinder for ammo scrounging.

I have one of those only in stainless. I gave $360 for it brand new but it's been a lot of years since I bought it and it was an outstanding price at that time. It's pistol that makes full house 357 very comfortable to shoot. Even my barely teenage great grand daughter that is rather small does it.

You found a great gun at a great price. Enjoy it.

I got into the blackhawk game late chasing semi auto and double actions as a younger adult n missed out on the "deals" in the80's ... traded into a 7.5 bisley .45 colt.. then a .45 convertible 7.5 and in the last few years before the spike in prices I got a 2 super blackhawk .44 mags - a 4 5/8 and a 5.5 I am keeping my eyes open for "deals" on about any but would like a 4 5/8 .357 and maybe a .41 mag...not that I "need" them :p

i use blue loctite on all the screws on all my blackhawks. they all also have a belt mountain base pin. my 73 vintage handles the stoutest (legal) loads with aplomb. the sights are perfectly aligned when the gun comes up when my pinky finger is under the grip. for me, this is the best 357 revolver in my stable.

enjoy,

murf

Another great Ruger pick up, along with your LCP MAX and welcome to the Blackhawk Club!

I have been a happy Blackhawk owner for many years now, starting with a three screw model in .357 many moons ago. Then some time back I acquired a new Flattop Blackhawk in .44 Special, also with my favorite, the 4.62" barrel, like the one on the .357 I already had. Still need to get a .45 Colt/.45 ACP version to go along with the other two!

Congrats onTarget!!!...Great acquisition that won't disappoint. I haven't seen a Blackhawk of any caliber or barrel length in years on a local website that went for that price.

At the time I decided I needed a Blackhawk (2006) in .357 Mag Ruger was doing some limited runs on a number of their offerings to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

I ended up with a 2006 .357 Flattop with the original XR-3 all metal grip style. Here it is with a very prominent cylinder turn line made by years of heavy 158 grain HCSWCGC and 180 grain XTP loads. One plus related to the all-steel grip frame is if I haven't neutralized the threat after emptying the cylinder it can be used as a Shillelagh.
