Excellent choice. Be warned - you'll be running through far more ammo than you expect. It gets addictive quick.

sonyman, is that your car's gas cap lying next to your rifle?

Excellent choice! I'm sure you'll love it. I have one very similar, and I love it.

A word of warning: shooting AR's is addictive. They're so fun, you'll probably find yourself going to the range more often now. But thats not a bad thing... :D

additive is right,i love my Bushmaster, i'm up to 300 rounds a week....HELP ME...i can't stop....AAAHHHHH:)

May the force be with you...I've got a pile of Black Rifles! They begin to multiply = Black Rifle Disease!

Only weighs 6.7 lbs empty! I cant beleive how light this thing is!
And you can have your bbl turned down to to .625 between the FSB and muzzle to make it even lighter, and if you want lighter than that, you can have it turned down to a pencil bbl (.550"?).

Curious as to how this compares to a Kel Tec that is half the price?
I own both a Kel-Tec Su-16CA and a DPMS Mod.A15.

The DPMS rilfe is the more accurate of the two rifles. The Kel-Tec gets about the same level of accuracy as my Ak rifles. At 100, it'll hit minute of Bad Guy consistantly, the AR will hit minute of soda can. The Kel-Tec is easier to fold up and stash away in a hiking pack, but the AR wins for functional ergos. The SU-16CA shares the heavier barrel introduced in the SU-16C model so sustained fire isn't the problem it was in the SU-16A which had the light barrel. The AR uses the direct impingement system, which can be a problem is you don't clean and maintain your weapon routinely, or use nappy ammo. The SU-16CA uses the gas piston system of the AK, which has better long term field function, but hinders accuracy.

Both are good platforms, when operated in their respected roles. The SU-16 as a higly portable field rifle that has good field endurace. The AR as a quick combat weapon for trained riflemen. If not restrained by the need for ease of portability and at least the pretense of mild concealability, the AR would be the better field choice, but as it is the SU-16CA goes hiking. On the other hand, the AR rode the cruiser.

Don't know about the AR mags but the AK ones are made by Pro-mag
Despite a generally bad reputation from Pro-mag, the poly AK mags have performed really well for me. I have yet to have a magazine related malfunction with them.

Bushmaster M4 A3 "Patrolman's" Carbine. 16" bbl, chrome lined bore and chamber, 6 position stock, dual apeature A2 sights, removeable carry handle, sweet looking manganese phosphate coating all over, and 5.56 NATO chamber
