This was my 3rd season of deer hunting. The last two I spent with friends in MN and did not have any luck. Last year I was at least able to take a shot but missed. Well this year my luck changed a bit. I was able to go with my dad and my brother to a friend's property in WI, where they bagged a couple of deer last year. Not only did I fill my buck tag on Saturday, but I got a doe just before we were getting ready to leave yesterday. Both were shot within 50 or so feet from each other about 75-100 yards from the ground blind I was in. I shot the buck in the neck and the doe through the lungs. Both were bang-flops. Shot both with a Remington 700ADL Varmit in 308 and Federal Power Shok 150gr softpoints.
Next year I'll wait for one with a little bigger antlers, lol. They were 3" though, so they counted!
When I registered the doe they measured her teeth to figure the age and they said she was probably 4-5 years old. Wouldn't have guessed a deer could live that long in the area I was at with all of the shooting going on around me!
Yes, I had orange on, including my hood over my camo stocking hat. but I had shed it to roll up my sleeves and dress the deer. I put it back on right away on Saturday for the first pic, and was in a hurry on Sunday for the second one. Oops!
