heck ya pdh, i would love to go shoot sometime...im still burning to break in my new barrel, it rained yesterday, hopefully i can do it today...

and yes garand owner, i will grease it, all the grease points inside are done, the grease on the outside just got rubbed off a little from me putting the last few coats of linseed oil on the stock, ect.

by the way, what kind of greae do you like to use...

i got some very nice quality high temp auto wheel bering grease, it is colored blue, i figured it should work fine right?

I use the Shooters Choice Grease on mine....my M1's in my pics are greased.....

Maybe we can get a warm day this later this winter? Get each other e-mails and keep in touch......You are only alittle over a hour from me...

I use surplus rifle grease on mine "Garand Grease". You can get it off ebay for around $6 for a box of 100 bottles ( I have used it for 3 years and yet to get through 1 bottle)

broke in the barrel today, then sighted it in.

Fastest sight in in my life, a few clicks down and right and boom, dead center.

And man o man, i had a few people tell me "these are service rifels, dont expepect something super accurate, i dont know if I got lucky or they are crazy but...WOW what a shooter.

I got groups comparable to what i shoot with my ar15, AND I have an eotech and x3 magnifier on the AR, and i shot this with open sights, i got some very nice groups!!!

Overall Im so happy with this gun already...

Also got to take it apart, and put together for the first time, not to bad at all.

M1! M1!

Brings a tear to my eye to see one in such great shape.
The ones that look like they've just been dug out of the sand on Iwo
are getting pricey.

I have one in similar shape, except for the glossy finish of yours.
I've had mine for about 5 years and I remember the first time I fired it
I thought, "What sane person would advance on a position defended by several of these things?" Really, (maybe oddly) it's the only time I ever felt awe after firing the first couple rounds in a rifle.
My receiver is 06-44 btw.

I'm looking for a decent recipe for reloading my 300lbs of brass that I hoarded from it. Mil surp stuff seems to be drying up. Sporting loads are too hot. I'm prepared to experiment to get it just right, but I could use a good starting point.
Can anyone start me off?
All I want to do is drive tacks @ 100 yds...

heiniken,

like I said, it isn't a target rifle, it's a battle rifle and a fine one at that! I think yer hooked! lol!!! Give them "black rifles" a break, there's alot of fine vintage hardware to try, just because it's old doesn't mean it won't "git er done" anymore. The next time we meet up to shoot I'll bring along a 41 Johnson and then you can compare.

cheers,

Mike

DumDum,

the finish is not glossy, its linseed oil, i had just rubbed it down before i took the pictures and the sun made it look glossy but its not after the oil dryed.
