So a while back I posted a thread looking for help with scope rings for a new scope on my Savage Model 10 223. The new scope was an Athlon 8-34X56 with a 30mm tube.
Right after I receive the scope I was able to quickly run to Wal-Mart and get a pair of inexpensive Weaver 30mm Classic High rings, (I think they were $15.00) which served the purpose of seeing how they fit and get some actual measurements I could visualize. They were REALLY High once on the gun but I was able to shoot it with them it was just uncomfortable.
One of the guys I work with at the range had another set of 30mm rings that were .10" shorter so we but them on. Original were .600" high and the replacement were .500". Better but still high. So after more research and study with math I looked at the Medium Warne Maxima and the Weaver Tactical which are .375" and .370" respectably so I went with the Warne.
The arrived today and I was able to put them on and they fit like they were made for this. So after 2 other sets I have arrived at a happy place. It has been a frustrating exercise at times.
Now even Warne website tells me I should be using the High #215 rings which measure .525" with this 56mm objective scope and not the #214 which is what I have.
