Finding Your Clothes and Weapons in the Dark

I keep my Kimber and P32 in a case that has one of those thumbwheel combination locks. I can open it in 3-5 seconds in total darkness (dressed or otherwise!). There has been a rash of home inv. here lately around 11PM, if I answer the door at that time, it will be with the Kimber in my hand!

Back in my old apartment, we used to keep the living room really messy, with junk cluttered on the floor. Any bad guy coming in will be bound to kick something or knock something over accidentally. I sleep with my Glock 19 in my pillow with a full magazine.

At one point, I kept a IIA vest, maglight, AR-15 right next to my mattress in addition to the normal Glock 19 in the pillow. That's probably too paranoid.

You're not paranoid; you need a IIIA with trauma plates :neener:

As for the gun in the pillow...doesnt that hurt?

I put those flat green nightlights found at Lowe's and Home Depot, in the masterbedroom to throw enough light to see in the middle of the night. They give off a surprising amount of light. They've been shining for about three years straight...should probably replace them.

Gun in the pillow is pretty comfortable actually. I put inside the pillow cover under the actual cover. You get used to it, it supports your neck. At first it was hard to get used to though. At least I never have problems finding it when I hear a bump in the night.

Sure...then everyone stares at you cause you're the guy with the imprint of the gun on the side of his face!

Many thanks to Triad and Quickdraw!

I am unable to edit my original post but if anyone is interested in the small flashlight in that post, it can be found at
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/58aa/ or in Cabela's Fall 2003 Master catalog - page 387 or their "outerware outfitter (2003/2004)" page 103. It's listed there as the "Surefire Survival Light".

One interesting thing I've noticed. I have a vintage Colt Police Pos. Special I keep at hand. It has "pimp style" mother-of-pearl grips. They're a bit much in the daylight, but man at night I can ALWAYS find that revolver! It's one of the main reasons I keep it around. Even a little light gets picked up by the MOP.

Sam,

Not sure I want to know this, but where do you carry your spare magazine in that situation?

Me, personally, I usually just wear chaps to bed. When things go bump in the night, I throw a saddle on the dog, grab a lever action, and go cowboy clear the house. It may not seem tactical, but I suspect the intruder will thing they are hallucinating thus gaining valuable time to aim and fire.
