Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence :barf:

Washington needs to pass gun laws that will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and other prohibited purchasers and keep military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines off of our streets. To do this, they should pass laws that will:
1. Require criminal background checks for ALL gun sales, including private sales.
2. Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
3. Make gun trafficking a federal crime.

By supporting, you will be telling Congress that you support these changes to federal gun laws.

By opposing, you will be telling Congress that you oppose these changes to gun laws.

I really hate the idea these laws are refered to as "common sense" laws. Does anyone NOT know which side of the issue the authors take?

Yeah. Opposed but we are still behind by quite a bit. This view supporting the bill is pretty telling though. I feel terrible for what this parent has been through but they are horribly misrepresenting what this bill would do.

My son Alex was murdered while watching a movie in Aurora, Colorado. He willingly gave up his life to save the love of his life. He should have NEVER had to make that choice, it was the right one but he should have NEVER been put in that position. His entire life was dedicated to helping people and it was snuffed out in less than 90 seconds. He was in the third row to the back of the theatre on the ground covering the love of his life with his body and a ballistic bullet from an automatic weapon blew through the seat and blew his head off. We were never even able to see him again the injuries were so severe, IN THE BACK OF THE THEATRE UNDER THE SEATS. Don't tell me Americans need automatic weapons. Get them off the street. Outlaw all of them, give people 60 days to turn them in then put ANYONE in possession of one in prison for a mandatory five years. It’s time to have real courage America stop hiding behind the second amendment it is trumped by the one basic law of humanity, "Though shalt not kill" and that is the only value of automatic weapons to kill. The NRA's idea to arm our schools makes me ill, all of us including our politicians have to STOP being AFRAID of these gun lobbying terrorists. STOP the killing take these guns off the streets. I would do whatever you needed me to do to help this. My son will not be with us at Christmas EVER AGAIN and I am doing everything I can to keep my family together its time our politicians had a tenth of the courage my 24 year old son showed that day and the courage Amanda shows daily just getting out of bed. Stand up America, if your not in a war the only people who need automatic weapons are COWARDS and aren't we the land of the BRAVE. It’s TIME to put up or watch one of your children, friends, spouse, die for absolutely no reason except we were too WEAK to act. It’s time for leadership and COURAGE. It’s too late for Alex but I have a wife and two more children.

The progressives were always quite fond to tell people that we do not live under a theocracy... they should be reminded


A madman kills his son, and is arrested and on trial, and he is ready to throw millions of innocent people in prison for 5 years. This is why we do not legislate out of blind emotion.
 
Too bad websites like this make you register, there's too many polls out there as it is. I hit them when I see them but I'm not taking time to register on each website and give them my e-mail to bombard me with junk later.

That's exactly how I feel, Polls are Skewed anyway, theirs and Ours and don't mean a Thing, I don't vote on Polls that ask for my E-Mail Addy:(
 
Just set up a dummy email account to use for these silly registrations.

Note that if you follow through with the registration process, they send you to a page full of anti-gun listings that you can vote on. And they send an email to your reps with the message "I oppose Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence." Suppose they have an agenda??? :banghead::banghead:

This is PopVOx, not some scam site. It is one of the primary ways we track legislation and suport members using it to voice their support for or opposition to proposed legislation.

I've been using it for months without receiving a single email.
 
I voted "Opposed," but with the full realization that the poll is a farce. Even from the title, "Common Sense Legislation to End Gun Violence," you can see that the deck is stacked. Who could be opposed, at first glance, to anything "common sense" to "end violence"? The antis have succeeded in winning the definitional game and the battle of perceptions. Fortunately there are still a number of thinking people in this country who are not swayed by mindless emotion and crass propaganda.

I feel for the losses, but this is not what you base legislation off of. This is the kind of fodder that is used to impose very dark times and oppression.
 
The best use of this poll would be to comb it for stupid sayings and arguments which we can then address in letters to congressmen. The only polls I've seen lean heavily toward anti are those put forth by the antis. Same as those by the NRA tilt away. Gallup stuff seems to be somewhere in the middle, lost in the noise of the disinterested majority (that's why so many polls are near 50-50). This poll was created to reinforce MAIG's self-assurance--you really think they'll let it go against their will? Unless the NRA gets ahold of this poll and decides to call down the hammer of God from their membership directly, we'll stay right at 20%.

I used the "biased letter to congressman" feature to call attention to what MAIG was doing to generate the letter. I said "I oppose "common sense reform" because there is nothing common sense about it, and this poll/email is a scam intended to deceive you as to your electorate's opinion." FWIW, the biased message is only sent if you do not opt to edit the message.

If POPVOX really wants to be a legit service that people don't mistake for a phishing scam, they really need to get some better servers. That, or defend against DDOS attacks, or something, because every operation on that page was either painfully slow, crashed the browser, or timed out :mad:
