firing an unfired vaquero

i have an unfired BH "old" blue vaquero 45 colt that is unfired. would it hurt the resale value a lot if i put say 100 rounds thru it?

i know its not a rare pistol....but it is discontinued.

I don't think it would hurt the value to put 100 rounds through a gun that is designed to take thousands. I have a Vaquero same as yours. Purchased it used for $350 (out the door), though it appeared to not have been used much, actually it looked new. I have put 300 rounds through it and, after a proper cleaning, still looks new.

Would it hurt the gun to fire it 100 times? No
Would it lower the resale value of an unfired gun to fire it? IMO, yes because then the gun goes from New/Unfired to Used/Fired status. I would think the value would drop similar to the value of a new car being driven off the dealer's lot. Just my .02.

It depends on your perspective. If you put it away for 30 to 50 years the value will be substantually higher. For example an original .44 "Flat Top" recently sold at auction for over $2,000.00, where the original cost was under $100.00.

But from an investment point of view, a O.M. Vaquero is a fine revolver, but a poor investment because there are so many of them in excellent to new condition. If you are looking to buy for long-term investment there are better chocies.

Frankly, for the money involved I'd go shoot it. If you want to get into guns as investments you need to do some researching.
