Paul7, I agree 100% with you. I am in no way implying that DW is junk, in my opinion LB is far better. Now we all know, what opinion's are like, don't we.lol
 
I don't think your experience is typical, you can easily find LB problems on the internet:
Heck, I just had to look in my range bag to see a broken Baer. Then again, I had a new DW that had issues too.
 
Of the three DW's I own, only the Guardian gave me problems. It was having feeding issues. I tuned the extractor and changed out the 12# recoil spring for a 14# spring. Been 100% since then.
 
I've got a CCO as my carry pistol and it's the perfect CCW pistol!

Thin, commander slide offers reliability. Officer's frame ideal for OWB or IWB.

As for a first pistol, if the OP is going to carry, its a great choice.

If he's going to the range only or for home defense, get a government model.

The forged alloy frame will handle anything the shooter throws at it.
