@armadio
I have a Tisas Zig 1911 A2 GI model that has at least 1000 rounds shot out of it. All 230 grain FMJ ball ammo, and all with large primers. It hasn't had one malfunction.
I haven't ever shot anything but ball ammo out of a 1911 model .45 ACP, and I don't think I ever will. To me it just seems to be the most reliable ammo for the weapon. Also, I think that .45 ACP ball ammo makes for a good woods and self defense carry round. I don't have to worry about penetration, and it definitely is going to function in my 1911.
Saying all that I do not carry my 1911 as a EDC weapon. It goes on trips with me when I take the family or if I have to go out of town. Another time it goes with me is when I go on long motorcycle rides. Another place it always goes with me is to the range. It is so accurate that at 25 yards you can destroy a 2" bull, and at 50 yards you can keep the shots in a 6" circle without a problem.
I hope you have as good of luck out of your 1911 as I have had from mine, and it brings you lots of good shooting fun. Be sure to take band-aids as that hammer bite is a stinger.
Don't know if you'll have to worry about that or not.
Also, you cannot go by price alone. I paid less than $340 for my 1911 including transfer fee. I would not trade this gun for a Colt or a Remington R1. I have confidence in it, and it shoots true. I guess I just got lucky. From what I hear 1911's are like that, even with the big names.
