Hello all,
Recently my grandfather passed away and left me a fairly signifigant chunk of money, and I was thinking of how to best spend that for me to remember him by... I went ahead and squirreled away about half of it in IRA and stock accounts, and figured a gun would be a good "fun" thing for the other half, since I don't tend to sell guns, and generally if cared for they last pretty much forever..
I want to have a nicely rounded gun collection and the only category i'm really lacking in is that I don't have an assault rifle. I'm a huge fan of 1911 handguns, and it seems with the military record, and availability of options the AR15 is sort of the rifle equivalent.... so.. I'm tentatively looking for an AR, but I'm not a huge fan of the .223 for this app. I'm thinking more of something with short range stopping power. .50 beowulf, 458 socom, etc. Are there any other big heavy slow calibers I should consider? Do these calibers present any difficulties with frame strength of the AR?
Also, does anyone make an "out of the box" 50 beo, or would I have to buy a AR and convert it?
For reference my total budget is around $2000.. is this a doable thing for that? What brands are better/worse etc?
Thanks!
